Chapter 484 - Tempting Offer

Further from the rest of their crew, Aurora, Yumiko, and Kyora strolled through the lively streets of Casinova Island, the vibrant jazz music weaving through the air. Its upbeat and cheerful rhythm seemed to match the glittering lights and endless chatter of the casino district—a perfect anthem for the land of chance and chaos.

Yumiko, walking alongside Aurora while Kyora led the group, let out a sigh she tried to hide. "Do we even know what we're supposed to be doing? Bonus points, we haven't seen the others at all. Are we supposed to find something specific?"

Kyora glanced back briefly, her voice calm but confident. "You saw that massive casino when we entered the main street, right? My guess is there's some kind of entrance fee to get inside, and it's probably the key to reaching someone important—maybe even Aurelio or Yipsiv."

Aurora's quiet tone broke the air as she mused aloud, "But it's a casino. A place for people to gamble their money away and test their luck. We aren't exactly dressed for it, and frankly, I doubt our luck is strong enough to survive Aurelio's games. And we don't even know what's going on in there."

Kyora shrugged nonchalantly. "Then we buy better clothes. Problem solved. Besides, I'm betting that entering the casino is the only way to meet Aurelio. No risk, no reward." She was about to say more when the three of them felt a light tap on their shoulders.

Startled, they turned to find themselves face-to-face with Echo and Hush, the enigmatic masked Duo Veyra. Both wore sleek, dark suits tailored to perfection, and their matching masks—one smiling, one frowning—gave them an unsettling yet captivating presence.

Echo tilted his head slightly, mimicking Yumiko's stance with uncanny precision. The angle of his arms, the sharpness in his posture, even the way his masked gaze seemed to match hers—it was as though she were looking at a distorted mirror image of herself. Hush, meanwhile, mirrored Kyora's confident demeanor. His hand rested on his hip, his masked face angled in a cocky tilt, silently oozing the same bold energy Kyora often carried.

Without a word, Echo reached into his coat and pulled out a silver envelope, waving it dramatically like a magician revealing a secret trick. His movements were theatrical, fluid, and deliberate. Hush mirrored him, producing an identical envelope, which he snapped open to reveal three shimmering silver tickets.

"What is this…?" Yumiko asked, narrowing her eyes as Echo's masked face tilted, almost as if he were smiling wider. He tapped the side of his mask with a gloved finger, a gesture that seemed to say, Think about it. Hush, ever silent, mimed dealing cards, his movements sharp and precise, as though he were daring them to play along.

"They're not speaking," Aurora whispered, her posture straightening slightly.

"No, they don't need to," Kyora muttered, taking one of the tickets cautiously from Hush's hand. She inspected it, noticing the intricate silver design that shimmered faintly in the light. "These are invitations. But why give them to us?"

Echo suddenly straightened, his posture calm yet commanding. He held up one finger, signaling a countdown, then pointed toward the distant casino before disappearing into the shadows. Hush gave a slight bow, gesturing toward the casino as if offering a formal challenge, before he too vanished into the dimly lit alleyways.

Aurora and Yumiko stared after them in stunned silence, but Kyora tucked the tickets into her pocket with a thoughtful smile. "Well, girls," she said, turning back to her companions, "it looks like our entrance fee just showed up—on the house."

Aurora shifted uneasily, her fingers absentmindedly raking through her long purple hair before letting it fall back into place. Tilting her head to the side, she frowned, her voice tinged with doubt. "I don't get it. Those guys just handed us these tickets? Out of nowhere? There's gotta be more to this than just helping us pay an entrance fee. They don't even know who we are. Why would they do that?"

Kyora raised her hands in a mock gesture of surrender, her expression tinged with exasperation. "You're probably right. Those two seemed like the cryptic type to pull some strings later. But for now... it doesn't matter. These tickets might be the break we need to get closer to Aurelio." She glanced toward the towering casino in the distance, her sharp eyes narrowing thoughtfully. "Whatever their game is, we'll deal with it when the time comes."

Yumiko turned her attention to her own ticket, flipping it over with a scowl. The reflective silver shimmered faintly, but the card itself revealed nothing helpful. "A one-time fee, huh?" Her voice carried a mix of annoyance and wariness as she squinted at the strange design etched into the surface. "No date. No time. Not even instructions. What's the point of this thing if we don't even know when to use it?"

Her face remained dark and stoic, a far cry from her usual energy, as if the cryptic nature of the ticket itself was draining her patience. "I'm not sure I like how this is starting."

Aurora glanced at Yumiko's expression and back at her own ticket, her uncertainty deepening. "Feels like a trap," she murmured. "But I guess we don't have much choice, do we?"

High above the sprawling city, atop the massive clock tower, Hush and Echo stood beside Finnovare, their masked faces reflecting the golden glow of the city lights below. The streets sparkled like rivers of fire, casting the trio in ominous silhouettes against the night sky.

"Six of them hold the tickets. Three golden, three silver," Finnovare mused, his sly grin gleaming like a predator's in the dark. His voice was calm, almost amused, as he watched the tiny figures scurry far below. "They've already taken their first steps into Aurelio's game. The clock is ticking now. Let's see how far they go before the hands stop and fate strikes."

He turned his back to the cityscape, his long coat rippling in the breeze. "Echo, Hush," he commanded without looking at them, "when the time comes, extend them an invitation they cannot refuse. And make it unforgettable. You know your roles."

The Duo Veyras exchanged a brief glance, their silent agreement conveyed through subtle gestures, before stepping off the edge of the tower. Their forms dissolved into streaks of shadows, vanishing as if they had never existed.

Near the casino's bustling heart, the faint clink of glasses and the hum of music filled the air. A man in a green coat lounged at a small outdoor table, adjusting the brim of his wide-brimmed hat. His revolver lay casually beside him, its polished surface gleaming faintly under the streetlights. With a sharp whistle, he surveyed the chaos of the lively streets, his sharp eyes catching every detail.

"Well, I'll be damned," he muttered, his voice dripping with a slow, gravelly drawl. He leaned back, propping one dusty boot on the edge of the table, the spurs on his heels catching the faint glow of the streetlights. "That Aurelio feller's gone and built himself a right proper kingdom here. Hate to admit it, but it's somethin' fierce impressive, ain't it?"

He chuckled dryly, reaching for his drink when he felt the air shift. A strange, tingling sensation ran down his spine—a warning, or perhaps a challenge. His gaze snapped forward, and his grin faltered as a figure approached from the shadows.

Her outfit was a theatrical spectacle of black-and-white checkered patterns, glinting chains, and razor-sharp buckles. Fiery red hair spilled from beneath a crooked jester's cap, framing a face painted with a grin that could cut glass. Her gloves shimmered like wet ink, and her knee-high boots clicked sharply against the pavement as she approached, each step calculated for effect. She stopped a few paces from the man, tilting her head with exaggerated curiosity, her grin never wavering.

The man stiffened, his fingers brushing the grip of his revolver. Her aura was darkly playful, a sinister blend of whimsy and danger that set his instincts on edge. "Well now," he drawled cautiously, tipping his hat in her direction. "You're either lost, or you're fixin' to make my night a whole lot more interestin'."

Her grin widened, eyes glinting with a wicked spark. The man tightened his grip on his revolver, ready for anything, though deep down he had a sinking feeling that he wasn't nearly as ready as he wanted to be.

The woman swayed slightly, her arms tucked behind her back in an almost playful rhythm, her smile lingering with a hint of mischief. "Good day to you, Yipsiv. We've been expecting your arrival here on Casinova Island. It's quite the pleasure to meet you in person, dear pirate. Perhaps you'd like to step inside and take a load off? After all, a voyage across the Vast Expanse must be terribly exhausting," she said, her tone lilting and teasing, dripping with a flirtatious charm.

Yipsiv raised a brow, his hand lazily brushing the brim of his hat. "The hell you mean, 'expectin' me?' How'd y'all even know I was headin' this way to meet your boss? And, dang, if I might add, that jester getup of yours sure makes you look… well, kinda naughty, sweet, and a mite too temptin' for comfort."

The woman let out a soft giggle, her voice chiming in the air like wind chimes swaying in a breeze. It was high-pitched, almost musical, and somehow unnerving in its steadiness. "You're too kind, cowboy. I'll take your compliments to heart," she said, clasping her gloved hands together as though savoring his words. "But before you go barging in to see my boss, here, take this..." She pulled a eed ticket from seemingly nowhere, holding it out to him with a theatrical flourish.

Yipsiv frowned as he took the ticket, turning it over in his hand. "And what the hell's this supposed to be? Some kinda fancy invitation? Or a trick to rope me into somethin' I won't like?"

Her grin widened, the sharpness of it rivaling the gleam in her eyes. "Oh, no tricks, cowboy. It's just your key to get inside and join the fun. Think of it as an entrance fee, but without the hefty price tag. Unless, of course, you'd prefer to pay in full—though I imagine a free ride suits you far better, doesn't it?"

Yipsiv glanced at the ticket one last time before slipping it into the inner pocket of his cloak.

"So, what now?" he drawled, raising an eyebrow. "Do I follow your lead inside and meet your boss? 'Cause I gotta say, I'm not too keen on playin' through games or putting on a show."

The woman's lips curled into a mischievous smile as she stood on her toes, her hands folding behind her back. She looked up at him with a sly glint in her eyes. "Oh, don't worry about playing the gambler's game. Though, I reckon with your luck, you'd clean up pretty well, wouldn't ya?" Her voice dropped to a purr, teasing and light. "But that's not what's in store for you, cowboy. Come with me, and I'll take you to my boss."

With a playful flick of her hips, she spun around and sauntered forward, her movements as fluid as a dancer's, her figure swaying with a confident allure. Yipsiv felt his boots carry him forward, unable to resist the pull of her charm.
