Chereads / GINKEN: Sea Storm / Chapter 435 - Vanishing Point

Chapter 435 - Vanishing Point

The distant iceberg that Nathaniel pointed out as the likely site of the factory was still out of sight. The only way to locate it was to get closer while hoping to avoid any more hazardous winds or storms.

"Hey, standin' around here with our heads up our asses ain't gonna get us anywhere. We gotta hustle and get movin'!" Yumiko shouted, her attitude radiating with confidence and raw energy.

Kyora clutched her staff tightly as she borrowed Tarot's spyglass. Stepping to the front of the group, she focused the lens to the farthest distance, scanning their surroundings.

"I don't see anyone we need to worry about right now, guys. We should be clear to move," she announced, and her words immediately reassured the others.

Joker moved up beside her, using his cybernetic equipment to scan the area, his eyes glowing blue as he did so.

"There's definitely something off," Joker said, his voice low as he continued to analyze the readings. "I'm picking up a structure embedded in the iceberg. It's not just a natural formation; it looks like there's something built into it. But that's not all—I'm detecting some unusual energy readings coming from that direction." He gestured toward the iceberg, his expression tense. "We might have company nearby. We need to be on our guard."

The others exchanged worried glances, the weight of Joker's words settling heavily on their shoulders.

Nathaniel had been silent since their observation, focused and alert. He reloaded his pistols, ensuring they were ready for any potential threat, and then holstered them with a practiced motion.

Finally, he spoke, adding his thoughts to the situation. "So there's a structure ahead, you said? That's got to be the factory. Just stay sharp—there might be some guards we'll need to deal with."

His voice was steady, but the urgency in his words hinted at the tension that hung in the air. The group nodded, steeling themselves for whatever dangers might lie ahead as they moved cautiously toward the iceberg.

Yumiko, unamused by their cautious conversation, stood with her hands on her hips, clearly itching for some action. She fought the urge to charge in like a whirlwind.

"Everyone's worried about stayin' safe, but I say we just blast in and take the place down. That's prolly what we gotta do," Yumiko declared, her voice brimming with enthusiasm.

However, her suggestion was met with a chorus of disappointed expressions from the others, who exchanged glances that spoke volumes about their reluctance to follow her reckless lead.

Kyora quickly interrupted Yumiko, eager to point out how absurd her suggestion was. "Stop daydreaming, Yumiko. Blasting in and tearing the place down is the dumbest idea I've heard. You have no idea how many alarms, traps, or enemies could be waiting for us. What if the whole place is rigged to blow if it senses any unwanted guests? Did you even consider that? Or is your mind just playing tricks on you, pushing you to act like we own the place?"

Yumiko fell silent for a few moments, glancing at the others as she assessed their reactions. She let out a resigned sigh. "Guess not. But I'mma keep that option in mind," she replied, a hint of defiance still lingering in her voice.

Tarot, munching on one of the peaches from his seemingly endless supply, couldn't help but chuckle. "To be honest, I kind of like Yumiko's idea."

In an instant, Kyora snapped back at him, "Who asked for your opinion?!" Her sudden outburst made him fumble the peach, sending it flying through the air. It bounced off his head before landing back into his palm, leaving him momentarily speechless and slightly amused by the whole situation.

Nathaniel, sensing the tension in the conversation, decided it was time to push forward into the snowstorm. The rest of the group followed suit, and before they knew it, they stood at the edge of a massive ravine that plunged deep into the earth. There, nestled beneath the icy walls and swirling snow, was the structure built into the frozen iceberg.

"Yo, Joker. You didn't mention anythin' about a huge crevice in the ice where the factory is," Yumiko remarked, a mix of anxiety and excitement in her voice.

"Oh, I must've forgotten. My apologies, Yumiko," Joker replied, leaning forward to get a better view.

He activated his scanning equipment, eyes glowing as he analyzed the area. "From what I can tell, the ravine is about one hundred and twenty meters wide and extends at least two hundred meters deep. And I'm detecting a significant number of life forms down there—probably a dozen or more. We need to tread carefully."

Yumiko peered into the vast crevice, scanning for the life forms Joker had mentioned. "Aight, mate. You're trippin'. I don't see or sense anything down there," she announced, a wave of disappointment washing over her as she realized Joker might've found something more intriguing.

"It was just a joke, Yumiko," Joker replied, smirking. "To scare you."

Her temper flared, but she managed to keep her cool, refusing to let it boil over. "You didn't have to lie about that! I'm not even scared! Remember, I was the one who suggested tearin' down the place!" she shouted, saliva flying from her mouth as she took a step forward.

But in an instant, the ground beneath her shifted. Yumiko's foot slipped on the icy edge, and before she could react, she was tumbling into the darkness of the crevice.

The world spun violently as she fell, the icy walls of the ravine blurring past her. A sickening rush of adrenaline surged through her body, and a primal scream ripped from her throat as she plummeted. The echo of her voice bounced off the walls, fading into an abyss filled with the sound of rushing wind.

In a blink, she vanished from view, lost to her companions above. The darkness and the fog closed around her like a suffocating blanket, and she felt herself falling deeper, her sense of direction completely lost. Panic surged through her, and the last thing she saw was the faint light of her friends above, fading away into the thick, swirling mist and snow.
