Chapter 407 - The Uncanny Land

Etuna skillfully navigated the tumultuous waters, ferrying Timothy and Aurora to the proximate shores adjacent to the enigmatic Uncanny Nexus.

As they disembarked, an eerie tableau unfolded before them—a desolate expanse beneath a pallid, featureless sky, bereft of the sun's comforting warmth. The ethereal fog, far from yielding to illumination, greedily swallowed the feeble attempts of sunlight, shrouding the land in an otherworldly mystique.

A palpable sense of unease gripped them, akin to protagonists thrust into a suspenseful horror film. Aurora's hair stood on end, a manifestation of the disquiet settling within, while Timothy's adventurous curiosity peaked amidst the unsettling atmosphere.

In front of them, the Uncanny Nexus loomed, a surreal spectacle beckoning them into the realm of divine conflict. Mere feet away, they contemplated a strategic plan to navigate the enigmatic landscape and confront the mysteries that awaited within.

Etuna's voice echoed solemnly, "Behold the Uncanny Nexus, a realm that once bore witness to divine wars. The Holy Light quelled the clashes among gods, rendering this land desolate and forsaken. Only untamed beasts and sea critters linger as the last remnants of life in this spectral expanse."

The desolation of the Uncanny Nexus intrigued Timothy, who found fascination in the myriad dangers concealed beyond its drab atmosphere. The scarred terrain and dilapidated structures, concealed beneath mountaintop rocks that obstructed once-flowing rivers, offered tangible evidence of a war that unfolded decades ago.

The remnants of destruction unmistakably bore the signature of divine conflict. The dim sun struggled to permeate the thick fog and murky clouds that dominated the skies, providing insufficient light for plant life to thrive. Nature's dependence on rain underscored the profound impact of the warfare that had cast its enduring shadow over the forsaken landscape.

"Once under the dominion of Phalris, this land mirrored Geyser Island, where perpetual rainfall and towering tidal waves were the norm. The seas surrounding these territories were the domain of the sea lords—those colossal grotesques now concealed within the secluded waters of the Vast Expanse."

As these memories resurfaced, Timothy recognized the familiarity of these colossal sea creatures. It wasn't his first encounter with them; he had faced two of these formidable critters in battles before.

Timothy, arms folded, discerned a fractured floating sphere amid the Uncanny Nexus. The enigma of the shattered orb piqued his curiosity, sparking a sense of suspicion. Could this be the elusive "power source" Onnamon alluded to? Was it the very sphere that lured him to this peculiar place?

Aurora, fixing her gaze on Timothy's pointed fingers aimed at the distant sphere, inquired of Etuna, "What's that ball? What does it do?"

Etuna, familiar with the sphere, provided Timothy with her best explanation, wobbling her hand as she spoke. "That 'ball' is known as the 'vitality permit' or the nexus. Initially, it served as the weather controller, managing the intense storms that encircled the Uncanny Nexus. Now, it's a broken nexus with limited utility. Although it retains some power, it's insufficient for climate control. However, approaching it could bring about unforeseen challenges and tribulations."

Timothy's view of the interior remained obscured by the encircling mountains. However, a cave entrance caught their attention across the sea, adorned with floating lotuses.

"As we venture inside," Etuna explained, "you'll witness the widespread chaos. There are quarries and crevices where rivers once flowed and lakes that used to link smaller ponds. Four towers stand at each end of the central terrain, connected by eight colossal and distinct chains—larger and longer than those at the Forbidden Chain."

Determined, Timothy brushed off the perils forewarned by Etuna. Unyielding in his resolve, he urged them forward towards the mainland. Aurora handed him the duffel bag, prompting Timothy to change into a warmer red and white jacket paired with black trousers, cinched by a black belt. He covered his head with the hood, leaving it unzipped to avoid overheating.

Following suit, Aurora donned a white jacket with blue jeans. Securing Timothy's whistle in her rear pocket, she acknowledged the need for safety, knowing she wouldn't be engaged in combat. The duo, prepared for the challenges ahead, moved forward with unwavering determination.

Timothy adjusted his attire, nodding at Aurora's practicality.

"This way, I won't stand out too much. Either way, let's enter. If you're right about Onnamon's evil plan, we might need to safeguard the nexus."

Meanwhile, not far from the Uncanny Nexus, Onnamon swam to the shore, grinning as he set foot on the land. His laughter echoed with pride, fully aware that the sought-after power source was in close proximity.

Onnamon reveled in the sight of the nexus-infused land, contemplating the untapped power source. His sinister ambitions echoed through his words as he envisioned breaking the seal restraining someone dear. Unbridled laughter underscored his obsession with the nexus, and he expressed an unwavering determination to seize it.

"I will return the favor, Jin," he declared vehemently, his laughter resonating more fiercely. Unperturbed by the prospect of becoming the most wanted criminal, Onnamon was resolute in pursuing his dark goals.

Several kilometers away, a marine ship navigated the sea toward the Uncanny Nexus, its crew following the lead of Admiral Faustina. On the ship's deck, Faustina allowed her team to carry out their duties.

"Admiral Fanny, we're about to run into a thunderstorm. We're nearing the Uncanny Nexus' climate change. There may or may not be some foul beasts on the land to avoid," reported one of the officers.

Faustina, indifferent, shrugged her shoulders, crossed her arm over her thigh, and donned her hat. "It doesn't matter. The orders to apprehend Onnamon were clear. We are required to prevent his mutation with force if need be. Do not ignore the chief's commands and proceed through its hazardous weather. Do not fail. We already lost the Phoenix pirates. We can't do the same for Onnamon. He's currently the bigger threat."

The marine officers saluted, acknowledging Faustina's instructions, and sailed onward, determined to reach their destination despite the impending dangers.

Unbeknownst to the marine crew, the looming threat of Onnamon was not their sole concern. Unseen forces, adding an element of impending danger, stirred in the shadows, heightening the forthcoming challenges they were about to face.
