Chapter 289 - Breaths in the Maze

As soon as Timothy and his crew arrived at the headquarters at the top of la Cadena de Narón, they made the decision to divide into three separate hallways and invade it from different angles.

Going through the southern corridor are Timothy and Ralphie.

Ayuka and Yumiko traverse through the eastern while Kyora and Kou through the western.

The headquarters is much bigger than the towers, and while it might not be the tallest of the three, it makes up for its confusing corridors and patterns.

It has a sphere-like shape, with an office in the center where Admiral Elian and the senior agents kept Chiaki.

Each floor of the headquarters is noted to have a unique atmosphere. Additionally, it includes a basement with a back exit that ties to the two bridges that go up to the forbidden chain.

Ralphie and Timothy ran at high speed, and for a while, the corridor seemed empty until they heard feet approaching from the front.

"We've got company," Timothy warned Ralphie, and soon they saw marines running at them. "Everyone on the southern side of the headquarters, make sure that the white-haired pirates get removed! Stop them from reaching admiral Elian." One of the leading marines shouted.

"All right, captain. Let's see who knocks out most of these authorities." Ralphie smiled as Timothy retaliated with a confident grin. "You know me well, Ralph." Timothy pressed his hands together and summoned orange flames that started flaring.

Ralphie bounced forward over the marines' heads and landed between them. "Good to see you. Let's see how many dishes I'll prepare today."

The marines pointed their rifles at Ralphie and readied to shoot. "Kick Party!" Ralphie announced and shifted into a handstand. Within a second, he kicked the marines after spinning on his hands. Everyone in his path fell to the ground after he disarmed them and knocked them away.

"Not the best of the dishes, I suppose," Ralphie claimed, standing back up and fixing his suit.

Timothy dashed at the upcoming marines and ignited his feet on fire. "Searing Dance!" He took a stride forward, flames trailing at his heels, and kicked his way through their forces, knocking the marines to the ground, the ceiling, or the walls.

"That's as far as you'll go!" One of the marines shouted, holding a wrecking ball in his hands. "I won't let you through without-!"

The man began to speak, but before he could continue, Timothy and Ralphie jumped from each side and slammed their soles into his face, squashing it and smashing him into the ground in front of their bodies.

Timothy blinked in confusion, leaning his wrists onto his back and bent forward a little. "Do you think we went a bit too far?" Timothy wondered, seeing the marine on the floor flinching. "He's fine. I'm sure he can handle a few bruises." Ralphie replied.

"You..." But once again, the man got interrupted as Timothy and Ralphie stepped on the top of his head and ran over him, "Excuse us." They continued running forward while the marine surrendered with a gasp, "Urgh..."

Ayuka and Yumiko ran forward, entered an open room, and got surrounded by the marines holding blades.

They stopped, looking at them. "Huh... Who would've thought the headquarters had so many officers?" Yumiko claimed. She spotted the marines bocking a stairwell up to the next floor.

"Stop in the name of the world government!" Shouted one of the marines and stood before the others. "Come on... You're a bunch of officers. Why do you think you can beat us? You don't even have any special abilities." Ayuka questioned, crossing her arms in boredom.

Yumiko looked at Ayuka, irritated. "Wow... Thanks a lot because I definitely have some special powers." Yumiko complained and noticed Ayuka stepping in front of the marines and seductively smiled. "Aw. Look at you guys. You must have worked hard. I think you did a fantastic job with those muscles of yours. Would you let me through, pretty please." Ayuka wiggled left and right, acting innocent, and suddenly the marines became shrouded with pink hearts.

"Go right through!" They called, raising their blades in the air, letting Ayuka through, "Thank you!" She sprinted up the stairs as the men suddenly became serious and looked at Yumiko. "Take her out!"

Yumiko's arms dangled in front of her legs as her torso remained slumped. Her eyebrows twitched, and she began to sweat slightly.

"Really...? I'm a woman too..." She sighed, seeing the marines run at her. She slowly picked up her blades, "Oh well... you're not worth my time anyway."

"Cleave Rush!" Yumiko swung her arms behind her back and moved quickly. She briefly flickered and vanished from their line of sight before suddenly appearing behind them.

The marines began to see a display of blue trails of slices as they erupted into a whirlwind, knocking each across the room as their screams boomed throughout the area.

Yumiko sheathed her blades, looking up at Ayuka. "Hey! Thanks for taking care of them, Yumi!" Ayuka called, waving her hands above her head with a smile. "Yeah... no problem. Could've had some help, though."

"What do you mean? You did a fantastic job clearing them out, and it only took you 2 seconds." Ayuka laughed as Yumiko sighed and sprinted up the stairs.

They both stopped halfway on the stairs, noticing a set of stairs on each side leading into a different part of the tower. "I guess we should split," Ayuka claimed, looking left while Yumiko looked right.

"Yeah..." Yumiko confirmed.

They exchanged glances and became serious, "Be careful, Yumi," Ayuka claimed as Yumiko nodded. "You too." They both spun around and sprinted in opposite directions.

Running up the stairs, Kyora and Kou entered a large room with a ceiling supported by hundreds of pillars. Only a few glassed windows on either side and very little lighting were visible.

"Who needs this many pillars to support one ceiling? No other rooms have thus many." Kyora claimed, irritated and bored. "And barely any light either," Kou added, scratching the back of his head.

Someone's voice reverberated from their front. "A perfect room to play hide and seek. Wouldn't you agree, pirates?" As soon as they focused on the male voice, they noticed Alejandro pausing in front of them a little distance away.

To be continued...
