Chapter 230 - Theft's Reason

Tim climbed higher and higher. "My fingers... they're freezing! I... I won't be able to hold on much longer!" he called, struggling. He released blue flames to heat his hands. "That's better." He said in relief.

Kyora became impressed by his powers for a while, thinking to herself about how to proceed. "I... Didn't know you had fire powers."

Tim raised his chin, stopping at climbing. "It's my developed ability, but it still has some secrets I haven't uncovered." Kyora blinked, looking back up. "Maybe we could use that to find Flare. She gets attracted by fire." She explained, but even though the snowstorm calmed down for a moment, the upcoming wind current completely put out Tim's flames.

"I shouldn't be using my ability carelessly. If I want to keep my stability and climb up, I'll need to spare it. I become exhausted quickly if I rapidly release flames without breaks in between." Kyora accepted his possible instability involving his special ability and continued climbing up the mountain.

Tim looking up at her, couldn't see much but the foggy clouds and weather that screened his view. "This is the worst weather to be climbing in!" he claimed.

"There's no good weather on this island. We have to pull through!" Kyora called. Tim noticed that she was trying her hardest and continued ascending.

"What do you think we'll find when we reach the top?" Tim asked, but Kyora had no awareness either. "I don't know, but I don't think it'll be anything significant. Of course, if there is, then I hope it's Flare."

The strong gusts of wind started becoming wilder the higher they climbed. It started becoming heavy and dangerous for them to keep going with some walls of the mountain getting icy enough to slip and cause them to fall.

They needed to be more and more careful, but even so, neither of them decided to stop. It was like a tall slope they would overcome with determination while risking their lives. "I need to keep going. I need to find Flare. She's probably scared being all alone without anyone to look after her."

Tim didn't reply, noticing that Kyora intended to do whatever it took to climb the mountain. Tim gazed below, seeing nothing but an abyss that could become lethal with ease.

Kyora didn't stop climbing and suffered an injury on a rock that slice-opened her palm, causing her to squeak in pain. "Argh!" she noticed blood slipping down her right arm. "Are you okay?" Tim wondered.

"I'm fine!" she called, returning to climbing with her wounded hand. "It stings, but... I'll manage!" she called, and Tim could easily tell that climbing with a wound would cause her trouble.

Natan observed the figure in front. It wasn't Silvio who they thought would be, but somebody entirely different. They didn't hold a gun and a sword but a pendant that reminded Natan of Tim's.

He observed the woman uncover her hood, revealing short white hair. She showed her right eye, which was red, but the other was invisible, hidden by her hair.

"She's not Silvio. Who is she supposed to be?" Natan questioned himself, then noticed the door in the mountain opening. A man stepped through. He had long white hair, and his body was muscular. He had red eyes and serious behavior.

"Fuji?" he asked, "Come on in," inviting her in. In silence, she followed the man inside, closing the door. She entered the room constructed inside the mountain. It was a close resemblance to the bar where people could meet and party, and the room had three tables, each with four chairs around.

The man moved behind the bar, grabbing a glass into which he poured red wine. Fuji dropped the pendant on the table, took off her cloak, fixing her hair behind the ears. "Seems you've been busy like you told, Fuji." Exclaimed the man, waiting for her to look at the pendant in front of her eyes. "I don't understand. You told me that this pendant will heal my younger sister, but it doesn't seem anything like a healing item."

The man stepped toward her table, put down the glass of wine, and returned behind the counter. "That item is important for a Spirit to heal somebody. If you were to call upon the spirit connected to that pendant, it would most likely provide you their support." Fuji was irritated. "You told me to steal this item without even knowing how to activate it? You can't be serious, Dave!"

Dave nodded in displeasure. "It's not my fault. I've never had something so exquisite. All I was aware is that they have a magical power of whom that most spirits are capable to heal. There are other types of spirits in those types of jewelry, but the most common ones are those that can heal living species. But you'd need to find some sort of activation code that could summon that spirit." Fuji listened to Dave, watching the pendant closely.

"Look, I'm not sure why you believe tales like that, but it doesn't make sense. My sister is sick, and if this pendant can't provide me the power to heal her, then I stole something expensive from a stranger for no reason." She explained, gripping the pendant tightly in her grasp. "Come on. You're an assassin. You shouldn't be stressed because you stole a simple item." Dave exclaimed, placing the plate on the shelf.

"An assassin?" she jumped on her feet, stepped in front of the counter, and placed her hands on it. "You're right. I'm an assassin. But the assassin's job is not to steal stuff. My job is to kill those I must, simply put, I must assassinate those who disobey the law or cause crime. I only stole this pendant because I'm worried about my sister."

Dave continued washing the dishes, being intimidating to the eye. "It's one item. It shouldn't worry you so much. You do want to help your little sister's health, right?" his words were sharp for Fuji, who accepted them in displeasure.

Her thoughts flooded through her mind, repeating the same process, knowing that her sister's life was on the line, and if she didn't do anything to help her health, it would ruin her emotion the more she thought about her.

"I know, but if it doesn't work... it's a waste of my time. If this doesn't help her, what then? I just go to find that same person and tell them, "I'm sorry to steal your pendant"? You can't be serious." Her British accent silently resounded through the bar, and with her finishing words, there was a sudden knocking at the door.

Their heads instantaneously turned at the door, watching in silence to see if somebody were to enter. "Fuji... Did somebody follow you?" Dave asked, and both of them kept their serious expressions. "Not that I know... I mean, the boy that I stole the item from followed me, but I was able to lose him in the long run. There is no possible way he came across the mountain and knows we're inside." She explained.

"Put on your cloak. Whoever it is, we can't reveal who you are." Fuji stepped toward the table, grabbed her assassin's clothes, and covered her head.

She was ready, sharing a nod for Dave to walk toward the door. He grasped the doorknob, and when both of them agreed, he pulled the door open, and when he opened them, Natan and Raoul stood at the door.

Natan's arms were put inside his pockets, his face serious. They exchanged glances in silence, waiting for who would speak first.

To be continued...
