Chapter 17 - Hunch

"Brought some snacks!" Kiel cheerfully offered to the workers who came past the entrance of the factory. He had gotten quite familiar with some of them since he spent the night in their quarters last night. Two guys came and got food from him, "Hi Kiel, where's Alana? She's not the one giving out food today?" they casually asked.

Kiel scratched his head, "Yeah, she's at the kitchen helping out Georgia and Jolene." he explained, still naive that the boys are pretty disappointed by not seeing the girls, nonetheless, they enjoy Kiel's company anyway.

Kiel was having a good time too, but that is not what he's after. As soon as he spotted Owen coming out from the factory, along with Arch, Tito, and Sky, he hurriedly excused himself from the talk and walked straight to the four. Owen noticed that and he almost jumped while trying to get back inside the factory.

"Owen!" Kiel called. He noticed Owen was trying to run away from him. Tito saw Kiel walking towards them, calling Owen. He looked at Owen and he seemed in a rush to go back.

Tito held on to him, "Hey Owen, where are you going? Kiel's looking for you." he gestured himself towards Kiel. Owen couldn't think of a reason, it seemed like the cat caught his tongue, soon, Kiel got near them. Kiel was just intently looking at Owen, "We need to talk, you owe me that, remember?"

"Y-you?!" Kiel was surprised by what he has just seen. It was Owen!

Owen immediately deactivated his ability, his lips parted as he looks at Gray, seeking help. Gray noticed that and clicked his tongue, he grumpily marched towards Kiel, "What are you doing here kitchen boy? Go back to the quarters and not a word about what you just saw!" he was gritting his teeth, trying to be subtle so they won't attract any more attention.

"No, I need to speak with Owen," Kiel said in a strong tone, which Gray did not like at all.

"Kiel, please just go, I'll talk to you tomorrow." Owen finally spoke to break the tension between the two. Kiel did not want to leave but he saw Owen's pleading eyes so he decided to let things go and return from the quarters. Eventually, Gray and Owen returned and the night continued as if nothing unusual happened.

"Boy, that sounds serious," Arch commented as the three other boys indifferently got food from his tray. "By the way, Kiel, where's Jolene and Alana?" Arch added.

"They're in the kitchen," he said. He clung to Owen's arm, "I'm just gonna borrow Owen for a while okay?"

"Sure."

"Have fun you two."

"We'll just be around here." then the three left the two of them alone.

"Hey! Come back!" Owen called after them but he got ignored. Kiel shook his head and pulled him away, "Let's go." Owen got swept and couldn't retaliate anymore. Although he's dead worried about Kiel's intent, he finally gave in and walked to where Kiel is leading him.

What does he need with me?

Why is he so interested?

When they have reached the part where there's no one around, Owen halted to talk, Kiel paused too. "Kiel, man, you literally can't get anything from me. Let's just pretend you didn't know or that I am ordinary."

"But you are not ordinary." Kiel retorted, smiling. "I don't need anything from you, but I do need to tell something."

Owen's eyebrows almost met in one line, "What is it?"

"Hey hey, are you guys starting without us?"

Both the boys looked to the one who spoke. It was Jolene, wearing a wide smile. Beside her is Alana, beaming up as well. They could both agree that the girls looked cool while walking towards them.

"You're supposed to bring him behind the building, we've been waiting there." Alana tried to scold Kiel but her voice came too soft. They are at the side of the kitchen building, just a few meters behind the factory building.

Owen gasps after realizing that the girls seemed to be included in their talk, "You told them too?" He asked Kiel while his eyes burst out of its socket. His voice also went loud that he quickly covered his own mouth after hearing himself.

"Relax Owen, yeah he told us about it first thing in the morning as soon as he gets to the kitchen." Jolene tried to calm him down because he was starting to look like he was in a panic.

"Wha-? Why? That is so not cool!" Owen grumpily told Kiel.

Kiel revealed a locket, "You dropped something last night." It was his locket that got left out at the door of their quarters. Owen immediately took it.

"Oh yeah, how did you have it? I got it a few days ago, maybe weeks? Others found it at the front gate with my name on it. But it looks weird and I don't understand it so I just kept it. Last night, I remembered about it and even looked for it but then Gray called me..." Owen stopped himself when he noticed he'd been blabbering.

"Hmm, that's almost the same way on how we got ours too," Jolene says, as if on cue, three of them simultaneously revealed their own locket, similar-looking to Owen's.

Owen gasped, "What in the world does this mean? What's in this locket?"

Jolene opened her locket, Owen saw two tiny blinking lights close to each other. "It's a tracker, my locket was meant to track Kiel." She glanced at Kiel, he opened his at it revealed two blinking lights close to each other, "Mine was meant to track Alana."

"And yeah, you know what's next, my tracker led us here, to you." Alana finished.

Owen opened up his locket, but unlike the three, the light on his tracker is far away from each other. "So my tracker..."

"Is bringing us to the next person that might give us answers on what is this locket for," Jolene told him. He is slowly starting to piece up this information. But he is still pretty much at loss. "W-what is this egg hunt for?"

"Do you still remember escaping in the orphanage back when you were young?" Jolene asked in a more discreet tone.

Owen thought for a while, it was a long time but, "Yeah, I do."

"We were the ones with you at that time," Alana added.

Owen's eyes widened when he was suddenly brought to his childhood memory. He can clearly remember most of it, but particularly more after the escape. He looked at the three, still a bit suspicious, "How am I supposed to prove that you're telling the truth? Or that I'm really the guy you were looking for?"

The three gave him a 'seriously?' type of look.

"I literally saw you while using your ability."

"And you just admitted you remember the orphanage."

"Yeah, you're so similar to us." Alana indifferently added, Kiel and Jolene agreed in a way as if Owen was asking such a ridiculous question.

"I don't see anything we can be similar at." Owen clapped back.

Alana pursed her lips and walked close to Owen, she lowered her sunglasses down to the bridge of her nose.

"Aah!" Owen yelped and moved backward when he saw Alana's fiery red eyes, Alana moved back to her original position and wore back her sunglasses properly. "Your eyes! It's-"

"Similar to yours but only with a different color!" Alana cut him off.

"Is that why you always wear these sunglasses?" Owen pointed her sunglasses. His fingers were so near to her that she lightly hit them.

Alana slightly pouted and gave him a nod for an answer, Owen furrowed his eyebrows, "Why don't you just stop it?"

"Can you do it?" Jolene curiously asked.

Owen smirked, "What do you mean?" his eyes started glimmering on and off, "Oh you mean controlling my ability? Well, I don't know." he still won't stop doing it with his eyes.

Kiel chuckled while Jolene and Alana rolled their eyes with a smirk, "Show off" Alana said.

Instinctively, as if it had been bugging Alana for a while, she looked up to the roof of the factory. This feeling of being watched is still lingering since last night. But she did not see anything from the roof.

"I still have a lot of questions though, about you guys!" Owen said, he is slowly softening to the idea.

"Why don't we talk inside, I don't feel safe here," Alana suggested, glancing at Jolene. Jolene understands her, they haven't told Kiel about last night but now, she's starting to think that this hunch is getting longer and there could be a real threat out there.

The man on the roof peeked once more and saw the four of them head inside, he smirked, "They know we're here." he said to the other guy next to him. "Which one of them knows?" the other guy asked as he also peeks to where the four were standing.

The first guy ran his fingers through the piercings in his ear while thinking, "I'd say, Alana. But I see both of the girls are being alert for us the entire time." he looked at the guy beside him and his smirk grew wider.

"What's that smug smile you have right now?" the other guy couldn't help but ask.

"Nothing, I just like the challenge of not being caught. We've been with them since they arrived here and now they are finally noticing us, either they're pretty dumb or we're good."

"We should start doing what we came here for Duerre." the guy sat down properly on the roof, "Who do we eliminate first?"

"Fine, since you're so eager to get it done." Duerre sat down properly, the same way as him, and thought for a while, "I want that boy Owen out first, he seems like a threat."

"Why? Is it because he's big and all?"

"Yeah, big and strong, that is. What about you Forty-six? Any picks?"

He looked away but his face did not express any emotion, "Kiel, or Jolene." he simply said.

"My my, fiesty!" Duerre teased. Forty-six looked back at him and realized Duerre's eyes are glimmering red. "But like I said, physically, they don't seem much of a threat, so we will go for Owen."

"We haven't really seen them in a fight, or with their ability, so we can't tell." Forty-six reasoned, "So don't blame me later when I'm right and they turned out to be better than you."

"Better than me? Oh please." Duerre sophisticatedly chuckled.

"Stop babbling around." Forty-six fixed the bandana and tied it in his head tighter, "I have a plan." he then slid to get down. Duerre immediately followed behind him. They reached at the back of the kitchen storage room to where the four are now talking. They leaned closer to the wall so they can eavesdrop on their conversation.

"So... so far you still have no idea where does this all go?" they heard Owen speaking just above a whisper. They seemed to have talked about a lot of things by now.

"Yeah we don't, that's why we need your help. Come with us!" Jolene encouraged.

Forty-six snapped, he pulled Duerre away, "Let's go, we've heard enough." then they immediately ran away.

Alana immediately looked in the direction where she thinks something or someone moved. She can tell someone has been spying on them, but she cannot prove anything since they haven't seen anything unusual. But this feeling just doesn't go away and she has had enough of it by now.

She swiftly walked in that direction and see what has been going on.
