Chapter 9 - Leaving the Country

The boss was stunned. "Why are you suddenly quitting? Are you preparing for pregnancy?"

Mia's eyelids twitched when she heard the word "pregnant", so she controlled her expression and said with a smile, "I've been feeling too tired recently, and Grandpa isn't feeling too well. I want to rest at home and take care of Grandpa."

The boss also laughed. "Sure, have a good rest. If you need work in the future, just come to me. I'll reserve a place for you."

Mia smiled gratefully. "Thank you, Boss. I'll be leaving now."

After leaving the gallery, Mia wandered aimlessly on the street. Thinking that she would never be able to come to this gallery again, she felt a pang of sadness. After all, this was the gallery where she had studied part-time since she was in university, and they had a deep relationship.

It was unknown when snow started falling from the sky, but an umbrella suddenly appeared above her head. A familiar voice sounded, "Mia, why are you standing here in a daze? I saw you from afar."

Mia turned around and saw Jack. She immediately smiled in surprise. "Jack, it's you. Why are you here?"

"I came to have coffee with a friend to talk about something. I saw you passing by just as I finished my work," Jack said quizzically, "I remember that you used to be a lazy pig and hated going out to shop the most. Why are you wandering outside alone for so long now?"

There were some snowflakes on Mia's shoulders, so Jack reached out his hand to caress her, then took off the scarf around his neck and put it on Mia. "Why are you still so bad at taking care of yourself, like a child?" Jack pretended to grumble.

Mia smiled sheepishly and said nothing.

Mia's body was simply too delicate. The two of them stood on the street for such a short time that they couldn't help but sneeze. Jack looked down and saw that Mia's nose was already red from the cold, like a little carrot. Her face, on the other hand, looked even fairer and more pitiful.

Jack sighed to himself. He didn't know if Mia's husband was stupid or not. How could he bear to let such a lovely wife suffer outside in the cold? Wasn't he afraid that Mia would be abducted? Jack said gently, "Look, you've been frozen into a little fool. If you don't mind, let's go have some coffee?"

Mia, afraid that if she ran into Noah, she wouldn't know what to do, didn't want to go home either, so she nodded.

The two of them walked into the cafe closest to the street. They were so focused on finding a warm place that they did not notice that there was a camera constantly taking pictures of them from the corner of the street.

Noah had been busy for a long time this time. On one hand, he didn't know how to handle his relationship with Mia. On the other hand, he was really busy with work. When he finally finished, Noah began to seriously consider his friend's suggestion the other day and thought it was feasible.

In the years since he and Mia had gotten married, it did seem like they rarely spent time alone or had any chance to hang out other than to have sex. So after a little thought, Noah decided to do just that and take Mia out for a week.

Noah immediately instructed his secretary to book the plane tickets and then took some time to go to the hospital to tell his grandfather that he wanted to bring Mia out to play for a few days. Upon hearing this, his grandfather was extremely excited. "Not bad, bring Mia out for a vacation quickly. You bastard, you've finally gotten enlightened."

Noah arranged these things behind Mia's back and prepared to surprise her.

Hence, the next afternoon, Mia had just returned from shopping outside and she did not even have time to change her clothes before Noah's secretary invited her into the car. The car drove all the way to the airport. Mia was extremely confused and asked Noah's secretary. However, the secretary did not say anything. She only said, "The CEO is waiting for you at the airport."

Mia had no energy left and fell into a deep sleep.

When they arrived at the airport, the car stopped. A pair of large hands reached in and was about to pick up Mia, but Mia was startled awake.

"Don't be afraid. It's me." Noah gently soothed Mia as he lifted her out.

"I'm going on a business trip abroad these days. Can you come with me?" Noah asked before Mia could ask.

Mia froze for a moment. Noah had never taken her out of the country in all these years, not even to the surrounding cities. "But… Grandpa still needs my care."

"Don't worry. I told Grandpa. With Grandma here, don't worry," Noah said as he took Mia's hand and led her to the boarding gate.

At this moment, Mia's mind was in a mess and she did not know what Noah wanted to do. She could only let Noah lead her forward.

Entering the cabin, Mia realized that her position was with Noah. For a moment, she was stunned. She wondered why Noah, who had never liked being with her before, had suddenly started clinging to her.

However, Noah was very satisfied with this arrangement. He thought to himself that his secretary had done well this time. He would give a raise after he returned.

Both of them were in first class, and the seats were spacious and comfortable. Mia sat down and began to think. Her hand involuntarily touched her stomach as she spoke to the baby in her heart. 'Baby, what's going on with your dad? Why did he suddenly change so much? He never took Mom on business trips before, and now, he's so gentle and even took me out. It's really weird.'

Noah, who was sitting at the side, kept observing Mia's reaction. He looked at Mia's body, which had not moved since she sat down, and she did not even turn her fair and soft neck to look at him once.

After the plane took off smoothly for a while, the gentle voice of the air stewardess sounded on the radio. "Hello, passengers. There is airflow in front. Please fasten your seat belts and put away your small tables. Make sure you are in your seats and don't walk around. Thank you for your cooperation."

After hearing this broadcast, Noah did not say a word and reached out to hold Mia's hand. Mia was already mentally prepared, but she did not expect to encounter such a huge airflow. The plane kept shaking. At first, she, thinking that it would pass very soon, thought she could endure it. But as time passed, the worry of not knowing when it would end and fearing that something would happen to the plane made her feel uncomfortable.

Mia held Noah's hand, and for a moment, she was afraid. She began to think of all the things she and Noah had done over the years, and the baby in her belly. Noah still had his grandparents, and they still didn't know the baby existed.

The plane continued to shake violently, and the fear in Mia's heart continued to intensify. At this moment, she heard the anxious voice of the air stewardess, "Sir, please don't unbuckle your seatbelt. Our plane is currently in turbulence, please sit properly!"

Amidst the flight attendant's voice, someone hugged Mia tightly and comforted her. Mia was shocked and looked up to see Noah's face appear in front of her.

Mia looked at Noah's face and suspected for a few moments that this was a dream. So she turned to look at the seat next to her. It turned out that Noah had unbuckled his seatbelt and come over to hug her.

Noah's low and gentle voice rang in Mia's ears. "Don't be afraid, Mia. I'm here." These few words were like the sound of nature as they drifted into Mia's ears.

Noah kept repeating, "Don't be afraid. I'm here."

He spoke gently, as if he was treating Mia as a baby.

Mia was hugged tightly by Noah. At this moment, Mia started to quieten down. She quietly listened to Noah's steady and strong heartbeat. All her hesitation and panic seemed to have left her at that moment. Mia's heart was warm at this moment. She thought that this was probably the feeling of happiness.

Happiness? What was happiness? She remembered the women who used to take care of them at the orphanage saying that happiness was like cats eating fish, dogs eating meat, and Ultramarines beating little monsters.

When Mia first heard this sentence, she was still young and did not understand what it meant. At that time, the woman told her that it was a kind of realm. Actually, it meant that when she was hungry, she had food to eat. When she was tired, she had a place to sleep. Now, Mia was clearly not like this, but she felt very happy. Mia thought that this was because Noah was by her side!

Mia felt that she had never been so happy!

At the same time, Mia finally confirmed that she loved Noah.

After the plane passed through the airflow, the people sitting around Mia and Noah could not help but be curious about the two of them. The people around them kept looking over, but seeing how intimate Mia and Noah were, they guessed that they were either a couple or husband and wife. Hence, they smiled knowingly.

After the long flight to the hotel, Mia relaxed.

When Mia entered the house, Noah pushed her into the bathroom first. He comforted her and said, "Take a hot shower first and relax. I'll handle the rest."

Hence, Mia stopped struggling and obediently took her toiletries before entering the washroom.

Mia was still thinking about the baby in her stomach as she showered. The baby was actually safe and sound under such strong turbulence. What a strong baby. She didn't know if it was because she knew her father was by her side protecting her.

By the time Mia came out of the shower, Noah had already called for a glass of warm milk for her. Mia reached for it and finished it before lying down on the bed. Her tension eased. She'd been through too much today, especially since Noah's attitude had become considerate. It was something Mia couldn't get used to. As she thought about it, she slipped into a deep sleep without realizing it.

When Mia woke up again, it was already sunset. It turned out that Mia had slept all the way until the afternoon. She stretched lazily while thinking that it had been a long time since she had a good sleep. How comfortable.

When she looked up again, she saw Noah lying beside her in a stiff posture.

Mia had never seen Noah in such a position before. Noah had always been domineering. When they slept together, Noah would usually take up more than two-thirds of the bed. But now, he was facing Mia, his hand resting on his arm. His eyes were closed, as if he had watched Mia for a long time until he could no longer hold on.

So Mia bent down slightly and looked at Noah quietly for a long time. She used her fingers to gently trace Noah's face over and over again while thinking how cute this perfect man was when he slept. She would never get enough of looking at him.

Mia gently lifted the blanket and tried to get up on her tiptoes, but just as she moved, Noah opened his eyes.
