Chapter 34 - Club selection

"Hmm. That was a fantastic show they put on."

If this continues on a daily basis, it will be problematic.

What was the matter with them, ha?

They pretended as if I'd done something heinous to Jane.

They are talking about Jane Doherty here. She was the most powerful of the heroes. There is no one who has the power to harm Jane. Not even among the heroes, to be sure. So it was unthinkable that someone like me would harm her in any way.

Someone is tugging the strings in this place. I have to figure out who that person is.

They can't be simple, whoever they are. As a result, I must use extreme caution when it comes to coping with things.

So when I walked out of the class and while passing through the corridor, I found many students were gathered there.

"Is it already time for the club's promotion?"

I thought it would happen after 2 to 3 months. Maybe I'm wrong.

As I observe a large number of second-year students gathered here to recruit first-year students. It's exciting to see so many students congregated here, interacting with the seniors.

Horizon isn't quite as bad as I had anticipated it would be when I first arrived. It's just like any other university. Students will be covered in monster blood or fight villains or demons in the future, but Horizon encourages its students to pursue their interests in order to maintain healthy mental health.

They won't go as far as to allow people to be in relationships, but that's another matter if you didn't get caught. Basically, it is prohibited, but the professors here don't take it seriously until someone complains about it.

As I strolled down the corridor, I noticed a slew of clubs lining up to recruit first-year students. The more people they recruit, the more money the club will raise. But it's not mandatory to join any club. It would be based on one's personal preferences. They must devote a portion of their time to club activities.

In any case, there are clubs for almost any subject. There were various sports clubs covering various sports. There are also technological groups dedicated to the study of advanced technology. There are clubs dedicated to space exploration. There are various clubs where martial arts and training can be practiced. Academic groups and other activities are also available.

And I'm undecided on which one to join.

I swiftly crossed off the clubs that had anything to do with martial arts or training. Joining these clubs would be a major hassle. Joining them would be a recipe for disaster.

Because the majority of these are based on factions. They'd be representing their family's influences in this situation.

It is forbidden to utilize your family name to get things done on campus. On the outside, everyone would be treated equally, but there would be internal politics that would be going on here.

Some of the professors here would have direct connections to a particular family. There would be constant power struggles between them. So for someone like me, being involved would be a disaster for me.

So I pushed the thought out of my mind. It's not like they would consider someone as low-ranked as me into their club, so no worries there, but the people who are going to face problems would be those who are ranked at the top and don't belong to a prominent family. For these people, it would be very problematic as all the factions would be after them and try to recruit them.

If one joins a faction without any thought, they are going to make an enemy out of the rest of the factions. The MC is going to face a lot of problems here. But I just don't care as he will be able to solve his problems by himself, unlike someone like me.

As a result, martial arts and training clubs are a no-no. There weren't any clubs that piqued my interest.

"Oh, there's even a travel club ha. Interesting."

Well, it wouldn't be a bad idea to join the travel club, as I don't know much about the places in this world. The traveling club will conduct trips to various places on the weekend, so it would be cool to visit those places freely. That way, I can visit new places and save money.

Yes, I decided that I would be going to the traveling club.

There were some other interesting clubs. There is an academic club, and another one is a reading club, which got my attention. As far as I'm concerned, I didn't even have a single ounce of knowledge regarding the subjects that were taught in the class.

It would be a real shame if someone was kicked out of the Horizon not based on their physical performance but on their theoretical exams. I would be a laughing stock all over the place as the news from Horizon would attract more attention.

So, after thinking for some time, I decided to go join the academic club.

There is no restriction on the number of clubs one wants to join, but it is based on their interest. All the club activities will happen after the classes end, and different clubs have different schedules, so they won't overlap.

All the academic-related club activities will happen during the weekdays, and the traveling club activities will happen during the weekends.

It is really not about joining a number of clubs, but it is about allocating adequate time towards your club activities. These are all co-curricular activities that make students enjoy their hobbies for good mental health.

After deciding which club I wanted to join, I went around and collected the club application forms from the various clubs. Well, what can I say? I didn't even get a single favorable look from them when I went for the forms, but I had succeeded nonetheless.

I immediately filled out the application forms.

"Okay"

Thwack.

After flicking through the application papers, I stood up. Now I should go and submit these forms to the respective club leaders. I can't imagine how many obscure gazes I'm going to get from the club leaders.

****

"Hmm, that has gone very smoothly."

I expected an entirely different scenario before going to the club leaders to submit my application forms, but what happened was entirely different.

They didn't mock me or anything. They just welcomed me like any other applicant. Well, that feels great. Maybe it was always the middle ground people who used their superiors' names to get their things done, but the people above them are good. It may not be in all cases, but it so happened here.

Anyway, that's over.

Since I came back from the black market, I have drastically increased my training time. It has been somewhat difficult on incoming terms with the grandmaster's sword, so I had spent the whole night practicing my sword art.

In the morning, I would go to the gym to increase my physical strength and sleep in the class whenever I got the chance to compensate for my lack of sleep. It has been a roller-coaster ride altogether. I don't know whether it is because of the excitement of finding the grandmaster's sword or whether it is because of fear that the remains of the grandmaster's things still available here mean big trouble for me, so I started to train like crazy.

The short amount of time I spent with the old man revealed one thing, and that is that he is a troublemaker, so it's in my interest to prepare for the unexpected. That's why I can't take any chances here.

Even my senses tell me that a lot of trouble is coming my way, so I'd better be prepared.

While I was thinking about this, I got a call.

"Hmm."

Click

"Boss"

"You must be doing great to greet me with such a pleasant voice." You might have guessed it was Christopher on the call.

He has changed a lot from the last time we met, which is evident in his voice when he is speaking.

"What is the matter?" I asked.

"It has started. Hehe. " He said this in a joyful voice.

Haha. So it has finally started.

"As you said, the Alpha Medications have succeeded in successfully making the [Body enhancing potion]. It is not officially announced yet, but I got the smell of the news. I have already made the necessary preparations." Christopher exclaimed joyfully

"Good job."

Finally, the money would start to flow. This is really a piece of great news. As I know Christopher well, he won't let any stone unturned. So everything is set in place. All that is left is to wait.

"I know you will do a good job, so I will leave it to you. Send me the important details afterward. " I told Christopher.

"Yes, boss, don't worry, just leave it to me."

With that, we ended the call.

Finally, everything is coming into place one by one.

A lot of things have happened in the month since I came to this world. Nothing significant has occurred up to this point. Everything is going as I read in the novel up to this point, but it's no guarantee that I will remain the same. There is definitely bound to be a butterfly effect due to me.

"Hmm. Getting stronger is the only option left for me. "

Once the money comes, I can buy enough potions to help me get stronger.

And there are a lot of important things left to do.

The main one of them is meeting the parents of David Foster.

Ya, it's been a month but I have never even spoken to them, not even messaged them. I still don't know how to act when I meet them. Any change in behavior is bound to raise suspicion. So I should handle that carefully.

"Oof, let's see what's going to happen from here on."
