Chapter 4 - Starting a new life

With that, I was knocked out.

I was in a rustic bedroom when I opened my eyes.

"Haha..."

"I'm David Foster now."

****

Still, I don't know where I am or what kind of world I will live in?

But I know one thing for this world, not the same as the one I am from.

This is evident from the status screen that appears in front of me.

What kind of trash is this?

G rank?

Shit. What did you expect? You will be a protagonist or something.

At least I'm not bound with that dark fate now.

'A fate that I'm gonna decide myself ha? how is it gonna be?'

I need to gather information on how this world works and plan things accordingly.

Then I heard a voice,

"Hello, Hello? Mike testing 1,2,3"

I know whose voice is this.

"God?"

"Oh am I audible?"

"Yes"

"I forgot to mention before, But the place I sent you is not an unfamiliar place to you."

"What? A place I'm familiar with?"

"Yup. Do you remember the author you donated 10 million? I sent you into that novel."

"What?"

"Huh, So you don't want to?" God asked sarcastically.

"No no, It's not that just too sudden so, haha."

"Well, I figured that foolish brain of yours won't be able to figure out so I came to give you a heads up."

'This guy enjoys mocking me'

I stared at him.

"Well, I think I should send you to hell where your soul would be roasted still it vanishes?"

"Oh no, I'm grateful to the Almighty for providing me with this wonderful opportunity to make amends. My lord, I'm speechless because of the unending delight that flows through me. Haha..."

"Is it so? then I will take my leave then?"

'Begone fastly'

then once he began to speak,

"Oh, one more thing. You can upgrade one of your stats."

"Oh, thank you."

"Ok then, Goodbye."

****

Why does he have to keep scaring me like that out of nowhere?

Anyway, I got the gist of what's going on now.

"I'm in the novel I used to read ha. Wait what is the name of the book again?"

"Is it the Rise of the hero?"

'Forget it. Who cares about that anyway?'

I vaguely remember what I read. Who would have thought that I would be inside the novel I was reading at that time? Not me.

'Wait I didn't even study it completely? No, that's not it. He was ill and stopped writing after that.'

'Basically, I gave him ten million dollars, which he used to pay off his hospital bill as well as his debt, and the rest of the money he used to create his own business.' Why would he need to write for a living if that's the case? As a result, he quit writing.'

I only managed to read till 5th volume.

It was a normal weak to strong plot, but unlike the other novels I'd read, it was set in a modern futuristic setting.

The setting for the novel begins in the 2000s when the 'Great Catastrophe' occurred. A tragedy that wreaked havoc on the planet, radically altering the globe.

At first, there were Shifts in tectonic plates all across the world, shifting countries from their previous positions and causing tsunamis and earthquakes that killed millions.

The world's geography was permanently altered due to a rapid shift of tectonic plates, leaving only one continent surrounded by an ocean.

Huge portals began to open, through which strange creatures, subsequently identified as demons and other races, began to emerge.

They were initially placid, but as soon as they judged humans to be weak, they began rampaging all over the area.

Great disasters, on the other hand, bring with them possibilities. Humanity was able to obtain access to mana as portals appeared.

A unique power that emanated from other worlds and remained in the environment. It would enable humans to perform feats hitherto unimaginable, such as summoning fireballs or cutting through metal.

Demons were the embodiment of 'greed.' They were made solely for the purpose of eating planets. They would begin by infiltrating a planet, then reproduce like crazy as time passed, eventually devouring the world once they had achieved sufficient strength.

Elves, Orcs, and dwarves were all refugees and survivors of demons who had previously invaded their home planet. When the elves, orcs, and dwarves first arrived on Earth, they decided to observe rather than participate. They were testing if humans were worthy of joining their alliance in the fight against the demons.

They were first ecstatic at the thought of having a new ally, but as time passed, their elation went to disappointment, which eventually turned to disgust.

The selfish behaviors and machinations witnessed by the arrogant elves during humanity's darkest moments made all notions of teamwork vanish, only to be replaced with absolute contempt.

The orcs were dissatisfied by humanity's feeble and frail body and hence judged them useless.

And, for the Dwarves, humanity's rudimentary technology made them appear as if they were brainless animals parading their might and intelligence with no real support.

Neither less, they know that they need to work together if they don't want to repeat what had happened on their planet. Even though humans have this cunning nature, not all are on the same page.

Some pretty strong people emerged from the humans. they fought on equal terms with those high-level demons. In fact, they were instrumental in the demons' defeat.

A victory does not imply that all the demons have been eradicated. They also had some powerful demons on their side, but they couldn't devour Earth like the other planets.

We won the battle but the war is still on.

The continent was divided into four different parts after the conflict. For starters, mankind ruled over the vast bulk of the continent. Elves and dwarfs received an equal share of the spoils, which was slightly less than that of humans. The orcs share a little patch of territory with the elves and dwarves. The demons ruled a little portion of the earth at the farthest reaches.

A century has passed.

Humanity had gone a long way in the last 30 years.

Humans had put in a great deal of effort to rebuild the continent. Many people began to demonstrate exceptional abilities.

Humanity banded together to build cutting-edge universities to train armies to defend the borders against both groups.

[Horizon]

It is one of the most prestigious universities.

The protagonist also joined [Horizon].

He was your standard MC with a horrible past - his parents died in a demon-inflicted conflict.

- Taking vengeance on demons...and so on

That's the practical gist of the novel.

What I know is there would be many wars in the near future.

"As long as the story proceeds like normal, the protagonist would take care of it."

I need to take advantage of the knowledge I have from the three volumes that I know.

I feel slightly relieved that I am not the main character. The main character is a calamity magnet. All the main events happen around him.

First of all, I need to be strong enough to defend myself when the war breaks out.

Secondly, I need to stock up as much money as possible. When the war breaks out, the person who has money would live a carefree life.

I need to be strong and rich in order to live a carefree life.

Suddenly I heard an alarm ringing.

When I looked at my watch the time is 8 am.

"What?"

At Horizon professors never forgive students who come late.

"I need to hurry up."
