As an ordinary man, I could not possibly reveal the truth of the demon or its hiding place. Lu Bei did not pressure me, but instead, with golden light under his feet, left the village and visited several nearby ones.
The situation was mostly the same in all of them. The village well water was poisoned, monsters had been kidnapping the physically fit young men, and anyone who was sent to the city to report it disappeared without a trace.
Fortunately, although the demons were alert, they were not particularly adept at counter surveillance. Their lair radiated outward, encompassing and ruling over the surrounding villages by treating the inhabitants as livestock. After a few calculations, Lu Bei was able to determine their approximate location.
A defunct temple on a deserted hill, hidden within an illusion.
Within the illusion, venomous insects were everywhere, their creeping and crawling noises enough to make anyone's skin crawl.
