"What?"
Charis bit her lips, looking away briefly. She spoke, "I was ready to give you up when you didn't come to find me. You were mean and horrible to me as a boss but when I got into that situation with the manager's wife. You stepped in front of me and protected me."
"And so?"
"I got the courage to tell you how I felt."
"And I rejected you. How does that prove I am human? I am clearly a jerk, just as you said."
Charis's hands cupped both sides of his face, even though he tried to pull away. Even though there were blood splatters on his cheeks. "But you came back for me. I didn't tell you this before, but I was being chased that day, and you saved me."
Sebastian wanted to scoff, but he was just too shocked to say anything. How did she manage to come to this conclusion all on her own? He was a dangerous man that hurt people and he was only going to hurt her, yet.
