The car ride was quiet the morning after both Charity and her new husband sat silent in the Bently that drove them out that day. Every now and then he sneak glances her way, but says nothing. Until they locked eyes the next time he glanced her way.
"You're quiet."
Charity looked away, pulling her lower lip between her lips. She swallowed and shut her eyes before looking back at him. "Are you still mad at me? What can I do to make you feel better?"
Charity shook her head. "I'm not mad. I just have a lot on my mind."
Absalom moved closer to her, reaching for her brown hair. "I always preferred your fiery red, you know."
Her eyes flittered to his. "I hate that I am making you so uneasy. It's the last thing I want. It just feels so strange when we sit awkwardly like this."
