The darkness was the only think Jerald could see. His eyes were wide open, but it felt like they were shit tight. Laying on the floor, surrounded by the darkness wasn't scary for him. Rather, he loved it. It gave him a sense of comfort and gave him more time to think and sort out his thoughts.
His father began locking him up on the room when he was just five years old. Whenever he disobeyed his father, no matter the weight of the consequences, he would be thrown into the dark room and spend the whole day there.
The first time his father had locked him up in this room, Jerald was intrigued. As a five year old boy that slept with his light on, he had never been completely shrouded in so much darkness. It was thrilling for him. His father did this as a way to scare him, but it has back fired.
