Chapter 20 - ALTERCATION

CHAPTER 20

"Tequila?" Trevor asked as he waved the bottle in Maria's line of sight.

"Anything's fine, I just really need a drink right now." Maria replied, massaging her aching temples.

Maria had been craving alcohol for a while now and she couldn't wait to get off work so bad today just so she could get a drink.

"One glass of tequila coming right up Miss."

Maria flashed him a small smile. He walked over to where she sat, holding two glasses filled with tequila. He handed a glass to Maria and sat down right beside her. Maria took a sip of her drink without hesitation. "Mmmmmmm."

Maria's face was filled with pure satisfaction. Trevor chuckled at Maria's response to the tequila.

"Looks like you wanted this so bad."

"You have no idea." Maria said as she giggled.

She took another sip, savoring the deep taste of the tequila swirling around in her mouth. Maria looked around Trevor's living room. This was the second time she had been here. They usually had drinks together at the bar. It made her wonder why he decided to invite her over today. What made her more curious was the fact that she accepted his invitation. It was so unlike her. Sure, they hung out a few times, but Maria didn't feel like they were really close. 'I even invited him over to my apartment! Why on earth did I do that? Do I have feelings for Trevor? No, no. There's absolutely no way I have feelings for him. After all the person I'm in love with is Oliv-'

"You seem to be deep in thought. Do you mind if I take a quick peek into that pretty little head of yours?" Maria blinked twice before turning her gaze to meet his. She looked like she had just been broken out of a hypnosis spell.

"Now, what exactly has got your head all up in the clouds?" Trevor said as he tucked a strand of her behind her ear.

Maria's heart skipped a beat. He spoke to her in a soft and caring tone which made her heart flutter.

"Nothing serious, I was just thinking about work." She replied, averting her eyes from his stare.

"Well that makes me very sad. Knowing that you're thinking about something else while I'm right next to you. That makes me very, very jealous Maria." Trevor said, his voice as low as a whisper.

He held Maria's chin softly and turned her head towards him. Their eyes met and Maria swallowed hard. A low gasp escaped her lips when she saw how close their faces were.

"Maria….I-"

"Hey, that painting looks really nice. Where did you get it?" Maria said, tearing her face away from his touch. She looked at the monochrome painting that was hung at the top of the fire place. Trevor sighed and rubbed the back of his neck.

"I got it from an auction."

"An auction?"

"Mhm."

'an auction...' Maria had never really asked Trevor what his occupation was. Although she was very curious, she didn't want to pry. She had a feeling he wouldn't want to talk about it, if she ever brought it up. Maria picked up her glass of tequila and gulped down the remaining contents, leaving the glass completely transparent.

"I'll go drop this in the kitchen."

Without waiting for Trevor's response, she strolled out of the living room, feeling the weight of Trevor's stare on her back. Placing the glass gently on the counter, Maria let out a sigh of relief. 'Why the hell am I acting so nervous around him?' Maria just couldn't understand her own behavior. Trevor made her feel on edge. He made her feel warm and fuzzy on the Inside, just the way Oliver did. The more she thought about it, the more she became confused. Maria ran her fingers through her hair.

"What on earth am I doing?"

"That's exactly what I'd like to know."

The sound of Trevor's voice made her jerk back, causing her to bump into him. She could feel his chiseled body press against her back.

"it feels like you're avoiding me." Maria turned to him. "I'm not avoiding. I'm just...."

She trailed off. Maria couldn't put how she was feeling into words.

"Do you have feelings for me?"

This question made her heart jump into her throat. She pursed her lips together, not sure of how to reply to Trevor's question. He took her hand in his and planted a gentle kiss on her knuckles. There it was again. The butterflies swimming around in Maria's stomach. Her face flushed as Trevor looked at her. His eyes were dark and seductive. This sent shivers down her spine. His gaze was enough to bring Maria to her knees. He snaked a hand around her tiny waist and pulled her closer. He brushed his fingers on her cheek and looked directly into her eyes.

"It's fine. You don't have to answer that question. Just….. Trust me."

Trevor slowly planted his lips softly on hers. Maria's whole body relaxed as she melted into his arms. His kiss deepened growing hungrier. Trevor ran his hands through her smooth hair. Maria wrapped her hands around his neck in response.

"Trevor…." She moaned into his mouth.

Trevor bit back a curse that almost escape his lips. Maybe it was the alcohol, but Maria was loosing herself. Trevor withdrew himself from her, taking a good look at Maria. Her eyes were drooping and her face was flushed.

"Fuck." He whispered as he placed his head on her shoulder.

"it's getting harder to control myself Maria."

"Then don't." Maria replied. She held his face up and looked at him directly in the eyes.

"You can do whatever you want to me."

Trevor was in disbelief.

"Are you sure?" Maria nodded. He kissed her neck softly and traced his lips slowly to her ear. He leaned in closer and whispered in her ear.

"Then I guess you're all mine tonight."

The hallway seemed to stretch out longer and longer as Oliver walked. No matter how fast his pace was, his destination seemed to get farther away from him. 195, 196, 197, 198, 199, 200. The last room sat close to the flight of stairs. He walked up the stairs hastily. His heart was pounding so much that he could hear it. At the top of the stairs was another hall way with rooms at each side. He walked passed them checking the rooms numbers as he went by. Some rooms didn't have their room numbers attached to them. Since the rooms were arranged in ascending order, Oliver could easily guess the numbers. He got to the last room and saw another set of stairs. 'Just how many more stairs do I have to climb' He thought. Oliver breezed up the stairs in the blink of an eye. He looked at the room numbers carefully. 243, 244, 245. Oliver stood in front of the door to room 245. He let out a heavy breath and opened the door slowly. The sounds he heard made his heart drop to the pit of his stomach. Heavy panting and loud moaning filled the room. From the entrance, Oliver could see a small part of the room. The bedside table with a lamp on it and a quarter of the bed was the only thing visible to Oliver. His field of vision increased as he took slow strides forward. God, please no. Please let me be wrong. Oliver took his final step into the room. Everything was within his view. Oliver wished he hadn't gone into the room. He wished he hadn't entered the hotel. Oliver desperately wished he hadn't picked up Daisy's call. But what he wished for the most was that the scene playing before him was all a bad dream. If it was, he most definitely wanted to wake up now. His footsteps had alerted the residents of the room. They were both on the king sized bed in an unbecoming position. One was a man that Oliver couldn't recognize. The girl on top of him was his beloved girlfriend, Kenna. She looked at him with wide eyes, her skin as pale as a corpse.

"What's wrong? You look like you've seen a ghost Kenna."

She froze, unable to utter a word.

"O-Oliver, w-what are you doing h-here?"

Oliver scoffed. He couldn't hide how disgusted he felt. The sight of his girlfriend nude with another man was sicken. Unable to bear this atrocious scene, Oliver bolted out of the room.

"Oliver, Wait!"

He could hear Kenna calling out to him, but he refused to listen. He breezed down the stairs as fast as he could. He desperately wanted to get out of this hotel. Kenna fumbled for her clothes, her hands were shaking so much.

"Hey, who was that?! Why did he just barge in?!"

the sound of his voice was like a sharp pin, pricking her ear drums.

"You shut your mouth! I don't have time to deal with you." Kenna said firmly.

Her expression told him that she wasn't playing around. He got out of bed and began putting on his clothes. Kenna threw on her purple sweater and leggings. She bursts out of the room in hopes that she would catch up with Oliver before he left.

Daisy held her lit up cigarette between her fingers and stared blankly into the distance. 'I wonder if he's coming back already' She thought. The sound of hurried footsteps caught her attention. She turned her attention to the door and saw Oliver running outside. 'Speaking of the devil'

"Hey! Lover boy!"

Oliver halted and looked back. 'Ahhh, this is worse than I thought' She walked over to him and studied his face.

"How are ya feeling?"

"You….Why did you make me see all of that?!" Oliver said, gesturing to the hotel.

"Would it have been okay if you were left in the dark? Do you know how long this has been going on?" "Fucking hell." Oliver said as he paced around.

"But she's your friend, why did you rat her out?"

Daisy took a puff of her smoke and let it out.

"Friends Huh.... We're not friends, at least that's not what I think."

Oliver gave a confused look.

"What do you mean by that?"

"I met Kenna in college. She was the most self centered asshole I had ever met. She only cares about herself."

She threw her cigarette on the ground, stomping on it thoroughly.

"I over heard her talking to one of her friends one day. She said the only reason she keeps me around was because I was ugly. She didn't want to be friends with someone prettier that her." Daisy said and let out a chuckle.

"Wow, I didn't know Kenna was like that."

"She was probably hiding her true character from you. Anyways, enough about that. What are you gonna do lover boy?"

Oliver ran his hand through his hair. He couldn't describe how he was feeling at the moment. Hurt, sadness, disgust. If you could find one word for those feelings then that would perfectly describe how he felt. "Oliver!" her voice echoed through the air.

She ran to where they stood and jumped into his arms. "Oliver, baby I'm sorry… I didn't mean to do that it's just that i-"

"It's just what? What exactly can you say that would justify this?"

Kenna was speechless. Oliver pushed her off him. "We're done Kenna. I'll move out tomorrow. Don't call me." He said in a firm tone.

"Wait, babe you don't mean that do you? You're joking right?"

Oliver ignored her and made his way to the car. Kenna was about to run after him when daisy grabbed her arm. She looked at her with pure angry and yanked her arms out of Daisy's grip.

"you bitch! You fucking ratted me out. It's all your bloody fault!"

"My fault? You're the one who cheated on your boyfriend and caused this for yourself. Accept your mistake and stop acting like a child."

Kenna was seething with rage.

"How dare you talk to me like that!"

Kenna swung her arm and landed a slap across daisy's face. Within the blink of an eye, Daisy grabbed a handful of Kenna's hair and landed a heavy blow on her nose. She let her hair go and Kenna landed on the floor holding her bleeding nose.

"You forgot that I'm stronger than you, bitch. Own up to your mistake and make up with Oliver. Well, I doubt he'll take your cheating ass back but oh well. Adios!" Daisy walked away feeling accomplished. 'revenge definitely feels good' She thought as she smiled to herself.
