Chapter 2 - Chapter 1: The Big City

Painicus was born as a result of The Chosen Ones experimenting for a new species, intended to be a superior humanoid species with fur to be warm, superior vision, more agile and the next step in evolution. Painicus wasnt as mighty as the previous sentence described, due to only being an early prototype. Painicus was born from an accidental pregnancy. Due to this, it was assumed that his most outstanding feature of all, his grey fur, was a birth defect. Now, flash back (forward?) to now, Painicus has been saving up money to travel to the Big City to become a Synchronizer, which evolved from the early rhythm games into a job to synch songs and point out rhythmic flaws. Its also done for fun and for competition, which was Painicus' goal: to become the very best. A nefarious task, thought Painicus thought "Could pushing a few buttons be that hard?" As Painicus boarded the bus, he saw his small hometown fade from view slowly. It was a 1890-style place located in a sandy place with various wooden buildings. It itself had been a location for competitive Synchronizing, albeit a small attraction. Painicus believed that his hometown's synchronizing was nothing like the real deal, so Painicus never did Synchronizing in his hometown.

Painicus knew this was going to be a long trip but in a moment's notice, He had arrived. Painicus wobbled out of the bus, lazily dragging his luggage behind him. Pain, visibly tired, looked at the city environment surrounding him. There were shining neon lights and advertising boards everywhere and in addition, the streets were filled with newbie Synchronizers, all with colorful clothing accessories. Merely looking at the dystopian city square around him waked him from his half-asleep state. His jaw was practically open ajar at the new sights. Pain went and booked a hotel room, for he had calculated all the costs of everything he was going to spend money on thanks to the internet despite having weak connection at his hometown.

Painicus went out and went to the play center. He equipped a Lightboard, which was an arm accessory, somewhat resembling bangles, with a monitor which when activated, displays four, evenly split sections with with the colors Dark Pink, Green, Sky Blue and Light red in that order. This was the first time Painicus saw the Lightboard light up. Painicus stood in between two handrails and in front of a monitor displaying multiple images with the appropriate song names under the said image. There were multiple songs displayed on screen at a time. As Painicus stared at the screen in awe, his Lightboard connected to the monitor in front of him. He used his Lightboard to control which song to choose.

Painicus wanted to be the very best, but he had to start somewhere. He chose a song with "1" on difficulty. A song named "Monday Night Monsters", specifically the main theme of Monday Night Monsters. Painicus' finger nervously moved towards the external orange button on his Lightboard mapped to "select". He pressed it, to find the monitor displaying four circles with a grey color and outlines corresponding to the colors on the lightboard. There were fully colored circles also corresponding to the colors on the Lightboard, came at a relatively calm speed. Painicus tapped the wrong colored section of the screen in confusion and panic. It was a relatively short song, so when the song finished, it showed what score Painicus got. And out of the 200 notes that were supposed to be hit, Pain hit… 71 of them, scoring a D. Painicus was annoyed and angry, and so he stormed off to his hotel room and crashed onto his bed. He looked at the ceiling, rethinking his decisions. "...Did i seriously pay money to be disappointed?" Painicus said to himself. "Even if i wanted to, i cant go back to Chipdune, the next trip is in 3 weeks…" Pain told himself once again, in a pitiful tone.

Painicus tried hard to get himself to go back by any means but something in him said that he should stay. "You know what? I didnt pay to do nothing all day! I payed to be the best of the best and i'm going to accomplish that!" Painicus bounced back up from his bed, and just like that, he was ready to try again. He rushed back to the play center, at the same spot. He activated his lightboard and chose the same song. This time, he would learn. He missed a few to understand how it worked, then gave it his all and out of 200 notes… 158 notes were hit, getting Painicus a decent B. Painicus was pleased for now… Then, Painicus decided to test his skill by playing other songs, until… "Shit…" Painicus looked at his hand. It hurt a lot. He'd only played 6 songs ranging from a 1 to 7 difficulty, scoring a C rank on a 7 difficulty song. "What a day…" Painicus thought. As he exited the play center, He was surprised that the sun hasn't risen yet, he went back to his hotel room and snoozed. The next day, he did songs from difficulty 8 to 13, then to 13 to 15, matching with various other players and he went all the way to be able to tolerate 25 difficulty. Painicus was rising in the ranks fast, but still nowhere near number one. The day would start like any other, but something caught his eye. A new battling street for Synchronizers on the moon. Thanks to folktales of how great this four way street was, Painicus decided to give it a try.

(PS the story will be told from Painicus' perspective now)
