Stunned, I stare wide-eyed as Sean shrugs angrily and starts down the trail again. Inside, my emotions roil, tearing me apart like tissue. Temporarily speechless, I watch his retreating figure, shaking my head, at an utter loss as to what the hell to say in response to the horrible crap he'd said.
Even worse, it's abundantly clear that he believes it— he truly believes that I don't care about him anymore because Dorian's become a part of my life. When it hits me, the realization is staggering.
In that second of desperation, I let it all go. Icy blue light bathes the earth around me as my emotions whirl with the force of massive hurricane. Within me, a raging fire engulfs the last vestiges of my control and I surrender to it when it commands, refusing to pretend any reserves of calm or rational thought or action still hold sway.
An irritated, despairing beast awakens inside me, rampaging and wild.
"Jesus fⴎcking Christ!" Dorian curses as I surge forward with a mighty leap.
