With a heavy sigh, Dorian slumps into one of the kitchen chairs. He leans his elbows on his knees, his large hands dangling between them, then his head nods miserably.

Rising, I approach him cautiously. He grumbles something unintelligible, but yields to me when I push against his shoulders, sitting him upright on the chair. A single bright spark makes an interested circuit about his dark pupils as I swing my leg over his and take a seat on his lap, straddling him. My fingers winnow possessively into the soft waves of his hair at his nape and his eyes close with a low grunt of pleasure.

"I'm not faulting your logic," I begin quietly, pressing a light kiss at one corner of his mouth. "I think everything we've seen has been designed to take advantage of the remarkable similarities between your mother and the Rényú, Muirgen. But I don't think any of it was aimed at you. At least not until your father died."

Tilting his head to one side, his golden eyes open under meshed brows.
