Jess woke to the bleeting sound of her alarm going off. Blearily, she reached for her phone, hit the snooze and rolled over with a groan. Then, with a sharp intake of breath, she sat bolt upright.
She looked around and rubbed her eyes. Her heart pounded as she remembered that is was Monday and the first day of her new job. Three years of University, two years of being an intern and today, she finally got to start working on a movie.
Sure, she was just a runner, but she would get to be in the thick of the action on set. She would get to meet incredible directors, producers and actors and she couldn't wait.
Jess wasted no time in getting ready. She showered quickly and agonised over her outfit choice. She wore a fitted, comfy jersey dress that was bottle green. She matched it with leggings, ballet flats and a faux leather jacket. She knew she needed to be able to run about but she wanted to make a good impression too. Her long dirty-blonde hair fell lank down her back.
She made a face at herself in the mirror, scrunching her freckled nose. She saw a pale, and rather scrawny looking person looking back at her with blue-grey eyes. Jess sighed in resignation and pinned her hair up in a messy bun, then finished getting ready with mascara and lip gloss.
On the tube, Jess felt nauseous, her knuckles turning white as she gripped the railing above her. She had been too nervous for breakfast, her stomach was doing summersaults and time passed more slowly with each station the train passed through. The train stopped with a familiar lurch, Jess held her breath, and stepped onto the platform.
