Grabbing his head in pain, Berkeley looked around in a daze while wondering where he was, but then all the memories of the recent events came rushing back. Gasping in pain, he looked at the large wound on his leg.
Almost screaming out in pain, he held it down when he noticed there were many other people around him, however, that caused sweat to trickle down his face. Beside him, Mary, who was monitoring him carefully, handed him a few pills of some kind.
Taking the pills, he swallowed them with a few large gulps of water from in the already opened water bottle. Handing the bottle back, he started to feel less and less pain coming from his leg, and that caused him to sigh in relief.
"What did you give me? Where am I? Is the man who saved me ok? How is the current situation looking?" Asking four questions in succession, Berkeley was looking at Mary, who was still holding the pill bottle.
"I gave you painkillers and you are in Life-pod 5 on the planet designated as 4546B. The man who saved you is currently unconscious due to the injuries and exhaustion that has accumulated thus far. Our current situation is only 4 on a scale of 10 when taking everything into consideration, which is also our chances of leaving the planet.
It will probably be a 6 on a scale of 10 once Jake, the man who saved you, wakes up. He is very important to our survival on this planet since he is the one who seems to have the most experience in this kind of situation."
Explaining the situation, Mary carefully monitored Berkeley's facial expressions minor movements of the body. Pondering on everything he heard, Berkeley wondered how the man named Jake seemed to know how to act in this kind of situation, but he stopped after a while since he was given more pills to take.
Resting his head on Yu's lap, Berkeley looked up at her with dreamy eyes, he's had feelings for her ever since he first met her. Slowly drifting off to sleep, he entered into his blissfully beautiful dreamland.
Everyone else in the life-pod then breathed a collective sigh of relief when they noticed that Berkeley had gone back to sleep without any incidents. Owen then continued to make the Habitat Builder, which only needed a few more materials to be placed near the Fabricator before it could be made.
Once all the materials where close enough to the Fabricator, Owen chose the icon for the Habitat Builder so it could be made and used. Waiting for 30 seconds, he grabbed the freshly finished tool and admiringly examined it.
It was going to be his first time using one before and he had to make sure he knew what he was doing. Examining the tool, Owen scanned it and looked at the databank entry that appeared after doing so.
(This tool uses the same technology as the Fabricator, which rearranges matter at an atomic level. However this tool is strictly limited to building or deconstructing structures. It also has the capability to deconstruct other natural and artificial materials in order to build said structures.)
Heading out of the life-pod, Owen used the Habitat Builder to deconstruct the many pieces of metal scrap that had been blown off from the Aurora. Using a pair of goggles as well as an oxygen tank and scuba gear, he spent most of the time underwater.
The next ten minutes went by with him using the Habitat builder to deconstruct all kinds of materials while the resulting deconstructed materials were rearranged into cubes that sunk down to seabed.
After he he was done deconstructing all of the materials that he had brought over, Owen finally had enough raw metals and other materials to construct a Multipurpose Room. However, he hesitated due to indecision on where to construct the Multipurpose Room.
Did he want to construct above water or below? If it was above water then they wouldn't need to worry about wasting power on needing to create oxygen, but then it would be susceptible to any large waves that would crash against it.
They would also have to worry about being struck by lighting, if there were storms that is, and the local fauna rubbing up against the base supports and causing damage. It seemed like a bad idea to be above the water, but being below water held a much high chance of accidentally dying.
Even though there were only two major things that they had to worry about, it didn't make it any better that you could suffocate to death in your sleep. Because if you or someone else forgot to make sure there was enough power in whatever kind of power source you were using, then that would be the end for everyone.
Five more minutes passed before Owen made up his mind and started moving the materials to a location further away. Jennifer, Ryley, Ozzy, and William all helped move the materials while following behind Owen with their own freshly made oxygen tanks and scuba gear.
Arriving at his destination, Owen dropped the materials he was holding and took out the Habitat Builder. Selecting the option to build the Multipurpose Room, two beams shot out from the Habitat Builder.
One beam was deconstructing the materials piled below him while the other was constructing the Multipurpose Room 20 metres below the water's surface. Another one minute later and the Multipurpose room was done.
It was a completely closed off white and blackish-gray circular platform with a dome shaped roof. At a height of 2 metres and a diameter of 4 metres, it would be big enough for most people to move around in it with ease, not for Jake though.
Most of the materials that had been piled below Owen were now used up and there wasn't enough left to be used to construct anything else.
Three more hours then passed from the moment that Owen had constructed the Multipurpose Room, but Jake still hadn't woken up. Berkeley woke up again and took more pills while everyone had regrouped in order to eat and drink a little bit of the food and water that was present in the life-pod.
Meanwhile, Owen, Jennifer, Ryley, Ozzy, and William and been intermittently gathering materials in that three hour time period in order for Owen to continue constructing the base that they would be staying in for awhile.
Over half a tonne of materials had been placed near the base of the Multipurpose Room so they had a little less chance of being swept away by the ocean currents. Once the group of five that had been proactively gathering materials had finished the little break, they all went back to the base location.
Taking out the Habit Builder from in a small mesh pack that he had created in that three our time period, Owen constructed many new parts onto the Multipurpose Room in the next hour after William tinkered with it for a few minutes.
Starting with making a circular, glass enclosed ramp, Owen went up 5 metres before adding supports to the ramp and making a supporting platform to add another Multipurpose Room. He repeated this three more times with the ramp being various sizes.
Constructing the last platform so that it was 1 metre above sea level, he added the last Multipurpose room, a reinforced bulkhead door, and six solar panels. Going inside the newly constructed base, Owen added a power monitoring panel right beside the ramp in every one of the Multipurpose Rooms.
Unluckily, the sun was going to set soon and everyone would either have to somehow sleep in and on the life-pod, or they would have to relocate to the base. Swimming back to the life-pod, Owen spoke to everyone about the current situation.
"The base is functioning and there is air circulation, but there won't be many beds yet since I didn't have enough time to gather the materials needed to make enough for all of us. I did manage to make three beds in the top room of the base with the limited resources found thus far.
Jake must have one to himself, my father and I could share one, and the last one can be used by Berkeley, Yu, and Mary. I will make three inflatable rafts that can be used to transport the injured, the one person who can't swim, and the supplies."
Everyone looked at each other after Owen spoke and quickly nodded in agreement with one another. Soon after the little chat, Owen had made the three rafts with the Fabricator. Two other people stayed behind to help him load the injured people and the supplies while the others swam towards the newly built base.
Owen's father, Theodore, and the one person who can't swim, which was Derek, were the two people that stayed behind. Loading all of the supplies on one raft, it was the raft that Theodore would be paddling.
Berkeley was then helped onto the raft that Derek would be paddling, but they had one last thing to do before they could leave the life-pod. That last thing was to put Jake on the last raft and have Owen pull it while swimming to the base.
Lining up the last raft on the side of the life-pod that Jake was on, Derek and Owen each held one of his arms and started to lower him while Theodore was on the raft below guiding Jake's legs down.
Gently lowering him down, just as they were about to get him into the raft without a hitch, Derek suddenly yelped out in surprise and let go of Jake at the same time. Owen's, Berkeley's, and Theodore's faces paled instantly as they saw this happen.
That was only until Derek grabbed hold of Jake's arm again at the last moment while his face was as equally pale as Owen's and Theodore's. After getting Jake placed into the raft, all four that were present breathed a sigh of relief.
Turning to Derek, Owen questioned him with a frown on his face while Theodore had a slightly darker expression on his face. "Why did you suddenly let go of Jake!? Did you want us to drop him so he would drown?"
"Of course not! Something bit me on my upper back! That was why I yelped out. It didn't hurt very much, but it was surprising, and that caused me to let go of Jake." To prove what he just said was the truth, Derek unzipped the suit he was wearing and rolled down the upper half to show were he was bitten.
Reaching back with his hand, he felt around the general area where he had been bitten until he found a small bump area that was swelling up. Showing the duo that specific spot, Derek heard Owen apologize while he zipped up his suit again.
"Well then, I'm sorry for doubting you, Derek. It's been a long day and I'm tired, which is why I'm going to sleep as soon as we get to the base." Rubbing his eyes, Owen then preceded to tie a rope on the inflatable raft and start swimming towards the base while the other three people paddled after him.
By the time that everyone got to the base, the sun was almost completely gone, but that didn't stop them from doing what needed to be done. With the help of some of the other survivors, Owen managed to drag the raft up the ramp before dragging Jake out of it and into the base.
Placing him on the bed, Owen put a blanket over him and then went out to deflate the raft while Jake's feet were left hanging off the edge of the bed. All of the supplies were placed against the wall of the Multipurpose room while everyone that was assigned beds laid down in said beds and fell asleep.
After another hour, everyone had gone to sleep and the only things left awake were the creatures of Planet 4546B, or so it seemed. Jake's eyes started to flutter while his breathing became rapid and laborious, and his fists started to clench and unclench with immense strength flowing through his arms.
The ocean outside of the Multipurpose room was raging so tumultuously that it seemed as if the the world was coming to an end. However, the waves somehow stayed clear of the the base that everyone was sleeping as if there was an invisible wall blocking them from reaching it.
Then, all at once, the waves stopped and Jake quickly sat up in the bed and hit his head on the roof of the Multipurpose room with a thud, which caused him to fall unconscious again.
(AN. The chapter is done! Yay! This isn't a very informative chapter and not much has happened, but the next chapter should have more stuff happening. I will not say what will happen since that would be a major spoiler, all you need to know is that there will be discussion of a plan between the characters that might interest you. Peace out and look forward to the next chapter.)
