"So," Candy said in the most frightening tone he had ever heard. "Where were you tonight?"
"I…I…I…" Casey began but couldn't finish the rest of the sentence.
"You, you, you? You what? You dare betray me by sneaking off? Who were you meeting?" she demanded after mocking him.
"I w-wasn't meeting any-anyone."
"Oh? So you aren't trying to replace me? There isn't anyone you love more than me?"
Casey was confused. Who could he possibly replace her with? She was all he had. He had never been good with people. He didn't even have any friends so how could he love someone more than Candy?
"N-no."
"Don't lie to me! How did you get home?" Candy asked, her eyes narrowing into slits.
"S-someone gave me a ride," Casey muttered. "But it was a saperone. Chaperone! Th-that's all."
"A chaperone for what? Were you at school? What were you doing there so late? Was there a dance? Were you on a date?"
"I w-was at a dance b-but—"
