Casey had genuinely forgotten most if not all of what he had been through and it allowed him to function normally, albeit anxiously. His brain might not remember what happened but his body still did so he always felt like he was in danger.
Vera had read about anxiety as a trauma response and how it tied into hypervigilance. She had read about a lot of things. Too many things.
She had wanted to understand what he was going through but all it did was upset her. What did it matter if she knew why this was happening from a clinical standpoint? It didn't make it any easier to deal with!
