Vera hadn't factored in the possibility of running into Kane. They were roommates so why hadn't she thought of this?!
"Sorry, Kane. I thought you were Casey."
"I get that a lot."
"Can you go wake him up for me? I really do need his help," she pleaded, clapping her hands together and resting her forehead on them.
Kane yawned and rumpled up his hair, going inside for a moment. "Just take the phone."
Vera realized that the phone he had just unlocked and tossed at her was Casey's because a picture of the two of them was the home screen. It must have been closer than his. Either that or he didn't want someone he had only met once touching his phone.
She was grateful either way. She used the internet to check the email address with the client's phone number and sent them a text explaining she was having car trouble and might be late but that she would be there. Then she called AAA.
