When Casey came to and saw Vera's hospital bed pushed close to his, he burst into tears. He couldn't believe she was real and this wasn't a dream until he was able to reach out and touch her.
She was alive! She was alive so anything else could be dealt with.
He realized not long after, as she continued to sleep, that Kane must have woken up instead of him initially after being in the hospital because the nurses seemed to think he already knew what was going on. Seriously? His lifelong protector only came out after the danger had passed?!
Casey had very mixed feelings about that but he was too relieved that Vera and Ada were alive to pay them much mind. He hadn't failed his family. Everything had been worth it.
Seeing Vera wake up and hold his hand was the most beautiful thing in the whole world. He didn't even care that she chewed him out for not taking care of himself. What did taking care of himself matter if she wasn't taken care of?
