Being Casey Gilmore didn't feel much different than being Casey Parker had, though he was relieved once he was able to get everything officially changed and didn't have to worry about being recognized because of his credit card purchases anymore.
He still dealt with guilt, depression, nightmares, and so on but at least that was one less thing to worry about. He had more security than he could ever remember having.
He was Vera's. She was his. That was a beautiful thing.
Casey did like being in Monterey. The temperatures were similar enough to Seattle that he could still technically get away with wearing long sleeves in the summer without dying of heat stroke.
He felt more comfortable that way. His scars were something to be ashamed of.
