The very thought terrified Vera. Casey had already tried pushing her away for her own good once. She didn't know if he would try anything like that again.
He couldn't. He needed her, didn't he? At least as much as she needed him. She could tell with how desperately he held onto her sometimes. They were all each other had. She wasn't the only one clinging on.
Casey needed to know he was worthy of love. Vera needed to know she wasn't all alone in the world.
Her only family had left this world years ago. He was her family now.
Not in any official capacity though. She didn't think now was the time to bring up marriage though she had already decided to spend the rest of her life with him. He had a lot going on. It would probably overwhelm him.
Vera didn't want to make things worse. She had to be mindful of the fact that he was still recovering.
