Casey's efforts took longer than he wanted but they did eventually pay off. They let him go in January after nearly four years of being in the hospital.
His original plan was out the window now despite not particularly wanting to be alive because he knew that would hurt Vera. He had already hurt her too much. He had to focus on making her happy now. It was the only way he could even begin to atone for everything.
She had been there for him when she really shouldn't have been. He was determined to try and pay that back, futile as it may be.
Vera had done more for him than was comprehensible and yet she didn't seem burdened at all. She was so excited when they gave them the release date. He wasn't sure he had ever seen her look so happy about anything.
