'Less than a year' ended up being about seven months. Casey's discharge date had been set for a week before his birthday.
Vera was so happy she would be able to celebrate it with him properly this time instead of just bringing in store-bought cupcakes that she thought she might burst. She had everything ready as much as she could beforehand but would still need to have a proper termination of guardianship hearing once he was able to present for it.
