Things had been going so well with Casey for a while that Vera had finally relaxed, even though she didn't like having to spend holidays by herself. Or birthdays. Her strip mall colleagues were all really nice about letting her tag along though. Pete's wife even made her a birthday cake that he passed on.
It wasn't the same as being able to spend those special occasions with who she really wanted to see though. She still visited but wished they could go out and do things together instead of simply sitting around in here.
That was the way things were though. Any time with Casey was better than none at all but she still wished things were different.
Dr. Pratchett said that therapy was going as well as it could be, which was encouraging. There was still no set release date though and she didn't know when or if that would even happen. She desperately hoped it would but in the meantime all she could do was wait.
