Vera thought Casey was fixable. She was either too optimistic or didn't have enough details. Not that he wanted her to have them! His nightmares should remain his own. It was bad enough that she already knew what she did.
She wasn't disgusted with him though. That was the most surprising part. He had truly thought she would be back when he was trying to hard to hide his scars from her.
She had seen the ones on his arms and head by now but he still didn't want them to be visible. He felt more secure in the hoodie.
Not only did Casey not have to see his scars as much, it was a constant reminder that she was still with him because she was the one who bought it. That she still wanted him, broken as he was.
Vera seemed pleased that he wore it so often. That was another benefit.
