Kane hadn't been happy to discover that Vera would be gone so long when he finally came out again. It was even more annoying when she got back and brought Casey a present but didn't bring anything for him after finding out that she should have been mad at him but wasn't.
Why? Why did that worthless loser get all of the special treatment just because he happened to meet her first and conveniently happen to be useful for once in his life?
Vera wouldn't even like him if he hadn't been there for her when she was being stalked or when her aunt died. That was the main reason she was so stubbornly stuck on Casey. Normally he wasn't resentful of this fact because it was the only reason they weren't in jail but right now he was extremely bothered and couldn't put why into words.
He had seen that look on her face again. The 'I hoped you were Casey but you weren't' look when she first got here.
