Casey frowned. What was Dr. Pratchett talking about? He didn't have motivation to try and claw his way out of this black hole. He wanted to sink all the way into it and disappear.
"No I don't."
"Oh?" the doctor asked curiously. "Then what was it you were saying about not wanting Vera to leave you? That seems like sufficient motivation to try and move past this to me. You said she deserves better. So be better."
Casey gaped at him. That wasn't what he meant! He would never be normal. She deserved someone normal.
"I can't do that!"
"Why?"
"I'll never be normal. She deserves someone who doesn't cause her problems."
"If I may be frank, I don't think she wants someone normal. She wants you. Otherwise she wouldn't keep coming here," Dr. Pratchett said bluntly. "So what are you going to do about that?"
