"He's the physical manifestation of the part of your much-younger self who wanted to be saved. You were a victim of prolonged physical and psychological abuse, Casey. It started before you were even capable of retaining memories and has understandably had a profound effect on your life.
"That wasn't your fault. But now that you're more aware of it, you can make different choices if that's what you want. Kane does. He's making different choices already and trying to unlearn what your sister engrained into him. Are you willing to do the same?"
