"You would do the same for me," Vera said with a shrug.
"I don't think that's a fair comparison. You would never get arrested for murder," Casey pointed out tiredly.
"You were there for me when no one else was though. Twice. You had no obligation to hold me together but you did. The least I can do is return the favor, even if the circumstances are different."
"We have each other's backs."
He mumbled that as if to himself. She had said that to him days ago but it must have come to mind because of what they were talking about now.
Vera smiled at him. "Exactly. So don't worry about it, okay? No matter what happens, I've got you."
"You'll visit me in prison, you mean," Casey said blandly.
"Hey, don't talk like that! Devin says things are looking good for us. As long as I don't screw things up tomorrow, we should be good. No pressure or anything."
"That wouldn't be your fault, Vera."
