Jenna was stunned by what Chase was saying. Where was this coming from? Was it simply because she talked about her fictional dead husband?
"If I've brought the mood of the group down lately, I'm sorry—" she began but he cut her off.
"No, that isn't it! I've noticed that sometimes you go quiet in the middle of everyone else having fun and I figured you must be thinking about him, that's all. So if you need to talk about it, you can. Or if you ever need a ride somewhere and Joseph is busy…basically anything.
"You're my friend and I want you to be able to feel like you can rely on me. That's all I meant. You don't have to worry about bringing down the mood or anything like that because you don't. Everyone's glad to have you there," Chase insisted.
Jenna was instantly transported back to another conversation very similar to this one the day she agreed to be Bryce's girlfriend. He had wanted her to rely on him too.
