Bryce hadn't meant to get more involved with Jennifer than he already was. He had told himself that eating lunch, laughing, and talking together was enough but when he saw her in trouble and was able to help he hadn't been able to resist.
She had seemed so shocked when he offered to pay her car bill but how could he not? She was stressed at the thought of forking over money she didn't have that was supposed to go toward her move.
She had the same distressed expression Tessa did when she was upset. It was not a face he could ignore.
Bryce had avoided telling Jennifer about her all this time in detail because he didn't want to freak her out but he figured talking about her now would be the only way to get her to accept his help. As expected, he was right.
She seemed genuinely sad for him and at a loss for what to say so she ended up accepting. He had worded it in a way that made it difficult to refuse on purpose.
