Bryce knew the answer would hurt him but couldn't help blurting out the question that was haunting him anyway. "Do you regret asking me out that day? I was a total coward—I wasn't planning on doing it. My intention was to give you the flowers and run."
"No," Jenna replied thoughtfully after several agonizing moments of considering it. "I needed a friend that day. What I regret is taking you up on your offer to keep me distracted. I shouldn't have done that; it wasn't fair to either of us."
So he was right. She did regret being with him. That hurt a lot more than it should considering he basically knew that already because of what she said the day he confronted her about being Tessa.
"I never cared about things being fair," Bryce said quietly. "I still don't."
