No Time
The Nurse went through some files and took out a card giving it to me.
" Okay, just sit down .When it gets to your turn , I will tell you then you will go in with your card ...And how is Mr Donald doing today ? ", She asked.
Mr Donald is my Dad.
" He is doing fine ,Thank you", I quickly replied and went over to the seat. Burying my face in my little phone.
It wasn't long after, Someone walked into the hospital.
I perceived a familiar cologne as he walked past me, making me lift my head sharply to catch a glance at him. My heart raced at just the feeling of trying to look at him. I was lost a bit with my eyes glued and I just couldn't understand my self
I stared at his back as a Nurse came out from one of the wards and walked to him beaming with smiles . She spoke with him, he laughed making my heart skip and his laughter was just so lovely.
I kept staring not knowing why I was really doing so .
I was getting confused at what I was putting up, my eyes refusing to look elsewhere . Even from afar, I could still perceive that cologne as if I knew it for a long time.
God help me!
Cause i'm wondering what this is all about?
Then I saw the Nurse give him a hug as she got closer to him. She said a few words to him and he nodded, making my heart throb . I put my hand on my chest with the awkward feeling.
The Nurse picked up her bag and together they walked past me while I put my head down again and lifted it only to stare at his back again.
I felt so stupid for not taking a look at the Man , I didn't even know who he was though there was so much air of familiarity around him.
"Miss Abigail, you can go in now to see the Doctor",The Nurse at the station said.
I reawoke my mind and stood quickly .
" Thank you Nurse",I stuttered .
I walked right into the office.
Doctor Shane welcomed me and gave me a seat.
" How are you doing Abigail",He asked .
There was no concern on his face and I knew better anyway.
"Am Fine Doctor Shane",.
" So how is your Father, he hasn't been coming to the hospital for his Checkups for a week now ,Why ?",he asked.
" I know and I feel very worried about it too. Am completely helpless Doctor Shane, I am sorry that I keep telling you this over and over again . But I am the only family my father has",.I said.
Traces of tears reframed in my eyes.
" I understand your predicament Abigail, Trust me I do. But there is no way that I can help you at all. I wish there was a way I could have done something, your father's diagnoses are more critical than you can imagine and if I don't give you proper information I would only be doing more harm. There are chances of his survival which is only with a surgery but how would we even know if those chances are still possible if he can't come for check ups.
You have to know the implications of whatever actions you take for your father. Gather the money and come quickly , there is no time anymore",He said.
Finally the tears dropped, I put my head down and wiped them.
" Am not keeping him at home on purpose, Doctor Shane, are there no means of doing the surgery and paying up gradually. Maybe after the surgery, trust me, I am seriously looking for a job and once I get one , I am going to place for advanced salaries and get the money. I just need Time", I voiced.
"There is no time Abigail, don't you get it. And there is no such thing as what you want , we operate with different Doctors for this surgery and they can't start without the payment. I wish I could help you but it's not possible as it's not just about me",He hammered .
He was almost shouting, I found it so hard now to believe that this was still our family Doctor for so many years.
" Okay , thank you so much ....Emm..Can I ask for a little request Doctor shane?", I whispered.
He looked at him. I wish I wasn't going to ask this but am left with no choice.
"Yes ?",.
"Please Doctor, I wanted to beg for more of my Father's Medication tablets, I promise to buy them before the weekends. Please ..", I begged.
" Abigail...", he was trying to talk but,
I cut into his words almost crying
"Please Doctor Shane", i begged again.
" We have run out of the medications Abigail, I would have gladly given them to you like I always do but they are finished", He voiced.
I placed my hand on my face and cried.
" I have other patients to attend to ", Doctor Shane said looking at me.
I wiped my face and left immediately.
I walked slowly out of the hospital with tears in my eyes , I didn't know what to do next.
I stood outside for quite a long time as lots of thoughts and emotions swam into my mind.
I was feeling more helpless and my weak legs were not ready to walk either.
My mind raced off in a lot of confusion and many tears ran down freely.
At that moment someone tapped my shoulders, I was startled and that lovely cologne hit my nose again. My body felt literally strange making me uncomfortable.
" Hello Miss!", He voiced.
Even the voice was familiar too.
I turned and I met the eyes of the man that had saved me from the car days ago. So it was He all these while and I kept trying to steal a glance. Am sure I was probably feeling so awkward because he had saved me.
I fixed my eyes up at his and he Smiled at me too.
" Hello ",I voiced back.
" You are the lady from the other day, Oh My God!. How are you doing dear, hope you didn't have any internal injury or problem. I guess you came to see the Doctor right?", he asked
" Yes , I came to see the doctor but i'm perfectly fine ", I said.
" Are you sure, did you go for a scan ? and hope you were given proper treatment?. I have been very worried ever since then, you hit your head badly and the shock too. Please make sure you take your medications okay?..... Am in a hurry with someone right now but let me have your contact so I can check on you later please",.
He handed me his Phone, I was already short of words , things ran in and out of my mind . If only he knew I was here for my father and not for myself.
I put in my digits and handed it back to him
" Alright then , I will give you a call , My name is William and yours", he asked, almost Walking away clearly in a hurry .
"Abigail ", I whispered and he waved his hands walking away.
He entered his car and drove off.
I heaved a sigh and started to walk out too.
I didn't know what was going on in my mind but I knew I wasn't myself anymore.
My phone rang and it was molly.
" Abby where are you ?",molly asked
Her voice alone was making me scared , I could tell she was panicking and that something was definitely not okay over there.
" Am at the Hospital but am coming home right now, what's wrong?",
My heart beat very fast and I waited to hear her speak.
" It's your Father Abby....",.
" What happened to my father molly?", I shouted .
Streams of shivers washed me down and one would swear I was going to collapse at any moment.
" I don't know what happened Abby , He is completely quiet , he has stopped talking or moving. He is unconscious, I think we have to bring him to the hospital immediately", She shouted.
" Oh my God! ...just stay there with him, I will be right there soon", I voiced.
" No! ,I think you should wait over there in the hospital Abby, inform the Doctor and Nurses . I will take a cab and bring him there immediately, I will be right there just wait there ", Molly said .
" Be very fast Molly, please be fast", I cried.
I put my hand on my head and wept .
I could imagine what he must be going through right now. It hurt my heart so much to think of everything. I squatted on the floor outside and began to cry really hard.
Suddenly ,I remembered the Doctor and I ran into the hospital like a psychiatric patient.
