Chapter 8 - Secret Garden

Dante and Serena had been walking for about an hour now. To him it seemed like they were moving without direction. At this moment, Dante's hunger had increased exponentially since he first woke up. This was kind of understandable as he was subjected to high amounts of stress for a long period of time. Anyone who ran away from monsters and barely survived in the process would be exhausted and hungry to the bone. Now the only issue was what could a person possibly eat during this kind of situation? For sure they couldn't eat Fracture meat since Dante believed they didn't have any meat on them, however he knew if they did he would be down to try it out.

Serena who was currently walking in front of Dante, turned around and instantly noticed his mood. This was because she had already gone through something similar. When she first came back to Earth from her dream world, she had noticed the drastic changes to the environment. She had even been attacked by Fractures, though luck was on her side. She had survived by running in the tower, this was when she had discovered that the tower was a place that the Fractures were unable to enter.

"Don't worry we are almost there", Serena said looking forward once again.

"Almost where exactly?", Dante asked before he was answered by a view he did not think was possible in the current Earth.

It was the view of a extremely large garden and the most surprising thing about this place was that the air here did not have the bluish color that the Earth had right now.

"How is this possible?", Dante asked still in awe from what he was seeing.

"I don't really know, but I think it has something to do with the plants here. I believe they absorb the Nano Lites from the air, water and soil in order to grow stronger and bigger. In return it gets rid of the blue color."

Serena said she didn't really know why it was like that but from her explanation Dante felt like she was on point. What Dante could observe from these plants was the fact that their leaves were bluish green in color most likely as a result of absorbing so much Nano Lites. He also noticed that these trees were so huge that he doubted he could climb one if he wanted to. The shortest tree there was the size of a five story building.

Dante turned and looked at Serena in order to know what to do next. As if noticing his gaze she walked forward till she got under a tree. She immediately carried her gun and shot a bullet somewhere within the leaves. At first Dante thought she was crazy, however that quickly changed when what looked like a huge mango dropped in her hands. This fruit was as huge as a pillow which kinda freaked Dante out.

"Is it safe to eat that?", Dante asked.

Serena pulled out a knife on hearing this and cut part of the huge fruit. She put it in her mouth and ate it, afterwards she gave a huge smile before speaking to Dante.

"Yeah. This one is really good, you should try it out."

Serena cut a piece from the fruit giving Dante to eat it as well. After hesitating for awhile Dante ate the fruit. He realized this was a mango fruit after all and it was the sweetest mango fruit he had ever taken at that.

"You see, you are still alive. In this world you have to take risks you know", Serena said as she picked up the fruit and began to walk with it.

"How did you know it was edible?", Dante asked full of curiosity.

"That's simple. When I first came here I was super hungry so I decided to eat it", Serena said with a huge smile which caused Dante to look at her with a questioning look.

For someone as intelligent as Serena to say that, he knew that she must have been really hungry. The question in Dante's mind was how exactly did she get it from such a huge tree back then. For sure she did not have a gun, so did she climb it?

"We will camp here", Serena said after getting to a tree with enormous leaves that were spread out. The air around the tree was cool and relaxing. Dante knew he would definitely enjoy resting there.

Serena sat on the floor dividing the mango into two. She tossed the seed to the side before giving Dante a piece of the fruit.

"Serena, why don't we stay here? It seems safe enough, right?", Dante said.

On hearing this, she chuckled before looking him in the eyes with a rather serious look.

"Do you really think Fractures are the only threats we have on this planet. Well if you think so you are very wrong", Serena said as moved her eyes away from Dante and began making a fire. "Nowhere is safe anymore, Dante. Some plants here are capable of eating human beings whole, some are even more dangerous than any Fracture I have encountered so far. I would advice you to do your best so that we aren't split up."

On hearing this, Dante's face turned kind of pale. He believed he had finally found a safe place only to be immediately proven wrong. If such plants were out there, he wondered how he would ever sleep. Serena looked at Dante after making the fire, on noticing the look on his face she began to laugh lightly. He immediately felt embarrassed by this and turned his eyes the other way.

"Don't worry, don't worry. It's normal. Even I acted the same way when I first discovered about those things. You don't have to worry though because you got me. I promise I will protect you no matter what", Serena said encouraging him.

Dante blushed before nodding his head. Her attempt to uplift his mood worked, however he knew that in order for her to do so, she would have to put herself in extreme amounts of dangerous situations and he didn't really know if he was ok with this.
