Chapter 4 - 4

Raven's head snapped towards the source of the spontaneous sound. She found two boys on the floor. They were throwing punches on the floor until one of them got the upper hand. The brown-haired boy was being pinned to the floor by a slightly larger boy with platinum blond hair. The blond boy sat up straddling him as he assaulted the brown-haired boy's body and face with punches. The blood was gushing out of the smaller boy's face.

Raven was too entranced by the sheer violence of the 2 boys to move or interrupt. She studied each competitor and was almost certain that the near-dead boy stood no chance against his competitor. As if to mock her ignorant certainty, the wounded boy gained a sudden burst of energy and freed himself from the blond-haired boy's grasp. He managed to get to his feet and then lunge at the boy who had assaulted him previously. He had gained the upper hand in a matter of seconds and now it was the blond boy who was severely wounded and painting the floor with his blood. The smaller boy seemed to be restraining himself now as he looked at his victim. He stood up and walked away. Raven studied his face and watched it contort into pain and a desperate expression.

He was the victor, should he not be happy or at least boastful. Instead, he looked disgusted in himself. That made the orphan respect him for some reason; he didn't take pleasure in the pain he inflicted on others.

Just as everyone was starting to return to their pre-fight actions, the blond-haired boy flipped himself and took a fighting stance. He was going to pounce on the brown-haired boy. She needed to warn him somehow. The boy jumped and she was too late. Raven bit her lip in expectation. The sound of impact never came. She looked at the brown-haired boy still standing but his eyes were wide. She followed his gaze until she saw the reason for his shock. The boy who had attempted to attack him was being held up by the throat.

Lucifer had her hands firmly clasped around the boy's neck.

"You lost. Leech won. This is no place for cheaters," her voice was slow and meticulous.

After she finished speaking, she placed the boy on the ground. The boy exhaled a sigh of relief. However, just as quickly as he had drawn his next breath, Lucifer had him in her grasp again. This time she held his head in her palms. He thrashed and convoluted in his hands. A bright light emitted from her palms and it shone so bright Raven had to close her eyes in response. When she opened my eyes again, the boy was nowhere to be found.

Lucifer stood alone in the centre of the room with bloody hands and a grave expression on her face. At her feet was a puddle of blood and scorched fabric. The realisation hit the raven-haired girl like a train as she pieced together a logical answer to her appearance. She killed him. Better yet, she made him disintegrate.

How was that possible? What were these people? These questions flooded my mind in a haste.

The room was breathing in the silence. Every spectator was a respective statue. Soon, an ear-piercing buzzer sounded and everyone dropped to the floor almost instinctively. She followed out of fear; Lucifer was the only person to remain standing. She seemed unfazed by her actions or the ramifications which would surely follow. Raven deduced that it wasn't her first time. She was too precise, too calm, to not have done this before.

"Lucifer, why did you kill him?" Artemis bellowed in disapproval.

"He broke the rules. This wasn't the first time. The rule is - if one cheats that person dies." Lucifer spoke with a tone of authority that rivalled that of Artemis's own. Artemis smiled adoringly at his prodigy.

"Everyone get to your rooms!" His voice resonated throughout the room and caused the inhabitants to scatter immediately and exit the blood-stained room.

Artemis turned his attention towards Raven and nodded his head in the direction of the exit. She followed behind him cautiously, as he escorted her to her new room. We walked out of the room and into the same passage through which she had entered the room.

We walked down the passage and eventually stopped at a door. It was Identical to the other door to the other rooms on either side of the room. They entered the ominous room and Raven's eyes almost popped out of her skull.

Lucifer is my new roommate? How was I supposed to survive this place with a murderer sleeping beside me? It was kind of funny how it played out. I was not only forced into this hell hole. Now she would have to share it with her it with the devil herself.
