Chapter 13 - Into the lion's den

It ended up taking hours for Rain to comfort his mother. This was only further exacerbated by his sister who saw her mother's reaction and decided to relapse. The maid left after delivering the message, clearly a bit weirded out by just how close their family was.

Rain had succeeded at keeping his mother from blowing up, but she was still worried. His sister was having trouble as well.

They eventually settled, but they had both had a silent agreement to remind him every 5 seconds not to interact with anyone... especially women.

Actually, Jing was worried just as much about the men as well. She knew how prideful young masters could be. They would probably be around Rain's age and no where near in terms of looks so jealousy would probably cause them to be even more irritable. While she was worried about the women, she didn't expect them to associate with the son of the lowliest concubine, no matter how good his looks were. At least... not at this age.

So... they didn't want him to talk to anyone. They wanted him to show his respect and then sit in a corner and do nothing... which was kind of already the plan.

Rain wanted nothing to do with pride. He wanted to see the types of characters the cultivation world and the kingdom which he lived in, had at the top. He would observe the children and show his respect to the adults. He also wanted to see his father, if only to see how he interacted with others.

This was a perfect opportunity to acquaint himself with the Mo family's kingdom, but it did not come without risk. Jing's and Hui's worries were not without merit, despite them being a bit irrational in their thoughts when it came to Rain.

He was currently getting ready. He was dressed in a suit... yes, this world had suits. Robes were worn leisurely and royally, but suits were worn in formal occasions. Rain could clearly see similarities and differences to a cultivation novel. It was like a combination between a cultivation novel and an isekai. Though not a modern day, there were no guns nor did Rain plan on ruining this world by introducing modern technology.

His suit was all black, with sleek pant and shoes that fit his lithe figure nicely. For a child he looked good. He didn't put make up on or arrange his hair, it looked best in his natural swept way, and it complimented nicely with his piercing, black eyes. He wore a black blazer, with a red undershirt. He didn't do anything unnecessary to make him look better, but he looked good anyways.

Rain shifted uncomfortably. Suits were uncomfortable and limiting. He preferred loose clothes. In his past, his typical attire were gym shorts and a t-shirt. He also wore sweatpants and a raincoat over them when it was cold. He never put any thoughts into his clothes unless they smelled noticeably bad or had large holes.

However, the suit was necessary, though it would bring attention to his already attractive figure. Once again, Rain thanked God for him being 9 and prayed that there wouldn't be any weirdos at the gathering. Rain didn't actually have an opinion on God, but he had it drilled into him by his past parents, so he typically just followed it out of normalcy, though he didn't really care.

*Knock*

"Are you done?"

Currently, his mother and sister were waiting for him to get changed. They claimed they wanted to see him "tidied up" apparently. Rain guessed he could understand it, because he wore the same clothes everyday and they would want to see him in a different late.

"Ya, I'm ready."

Stepping out, Rain was faced with the wide eyes of his mother and sister, which only got wider as they saw him in his fancy suit.

"Oh my Gods!!!!"

His mother started squealing.

"You're sooooo cute!!!! Oh my gods! I need this! You need to do this again. Look at you in that little suit. You look so adorable... And handsome... are you getting handsome? When did this start to happen? Shit... I wanted more time to myself. Going from cute to handsome is unfair. And those vixens will surely notice as well!!!! *Gasp* Hui shield your eyes!!!!!"

But it was too late. Hui had not blinked since Rain had walked in, not taking her eyes off of him.

"You look... good."

Lowering her eyes, but not taking them off him, these were the only words she could manage as a slight blush crept up her cheeks, the only evidence of her stoic facade failing.

A little concerned that a mother could consider her own daughter a vixen, Rain just sighed.

"It doesn't matter. I don't like suits. Would you rather me get dressed up for you, but have to a gathering and risk getting noticed or would you rather me never get dressed in a suit, but stay here with you for the majority of the time?"

Hearing his words, Jing and Hui couldn't help but understand his point. The latter option was infinitely better in their eyes.

"I promise I won't interact unnecessarily. However, to be honest, there's nothing you can do even if I said the opposite. You must remember your position."

Jing and Hui agreed again, however Hui had resolution in her eyes. She knew that, unlike their mother, she had the capacity to be incredibly strong. In her eyes, all she had to was get strong. Strong enough so that no one would bother her or her brother ever again. She was sure that her brother wouldn't leave her side if that was the case. He didn't like to work or explore after all. She just had to keep him interested and he would stay with her.

Rain adjusted his collar, Jing looked like she wanted to step in and give him a hug, but she knew that would only result in her messing up his suit. She tended to get absorbed in Rain whenever she touched him and forget about anything else.

"Alright.... Let's go meet the fam."
