Nefretiri/Diana
"How did you get here?" I demanded, my heart racing as I realized it was Rich. "You're not supposed to be here!"
"I know," he grinned, kissing me passionately without giving me an answer. "I can't stay more than tonight."
"Rich? Are you AWOL?" I gasped, hoping he hadn't done something stupid.
"No," he chuckled, insisting on touching me. "One of the guys was hurt pretty bad. Someone had to bring him back here. I volunteered. Goddess, I missed you so much."
It didn't matter if he was AWOL; I missed him just as much. It's maddening to be away from your mate. That's something you don't understand at first. You think you can handle it, but then time goes on, and finding a moment together in war is impossible. I hadn't seen Rich for three months; his letters were the only thing keeping me alive. Having him in my arms was like waking up from a coma; I wouldn't waste it.
