I'm not as invested as I should be.
It's not that I don't understand that this is important, but it doesn't make sense. I have more memories from the night before, but they're only more confusing. Adam was there, but he wasn't alone. I think Jake and his top lieutenant were there, too. There were others, but I didn't recognize them. It was clearly an ambush, but why bring me here? What was the point?
'You have to win,' A part of my mind insists, and Chagan agrees. 'What we're losing is priceless! You can't lose!'
Except that something else was dulling the feelings that made me want to care.
