"This is embarrassing," Nefera complains as my mother feeds her another spoonful of soup. "Not to mention disgusting."
"I know, sweetie, but the doctors want you on this diet." My mom sighed and continued feeding my mate. "Ivan, eat that.'
She pointed to the plate of food they'd got me from the cafeteria. I'd only eaten half of it since I planned to give the other half to Nefera. I understood that human doctors did things a certain way, but we still weren't human, even without access to our abilities. Nefera ate almost as much as I did when I first met her, and they'd sealed most of her power. I can't imagine things are different this time.
"Can I at least feed myself?" I can't help laughing at that. But, of course, we all know that wasn't about to happen. If my mother had been overprotective in California, you could bet she was a hundred times worse now.
