We were lying in our hotel bed, the night's quiet unsettling instead of peaceful. The day had been too long, and what we'd discovered and learned overwhelmed me. My grandfather summoned Ivan to meet him, and my mate didn't know it was happening. August Rosario played by his own rules, and we were supposed to follow them on top of everyone else's. Then there were the assessments we'd discovered about the packhouse and Fletcher and Naomi's dealings. That was another set of issues we had to deal with. So, the answer was, no, I wasn't alright.
"He didn't answer," I think that hurt the most. Luke had his phone number, e-mail, and even an Instagram account, and we'd messaged all of them, but August hadn't responded. Worse, when I called the number, it rang twice and then hung up. "He didn't want to talk to me."
