"Nefretiri," Pearl came into the pack hospital waiting room with an air of triumph. She was smug about being allowed to see me. "You're looking… drained."
"I'm allowed up for twenty minutes a day, and I'm wasting it on you. Let's skip the pleasantries," the tension was palpable, and I didn't want to be here more than I needed to be.
Convincing everyone to get behind this had felt impossible.
I'd had no choice but to call Vince, Steven, Tay, and Brandon to inform them about Pearl and how she'd mind-linked me. As imagined, they weren't thrilled. It'd taken hours to calm everyone down enough to talk, let alone convince them to let her come in. I was too tired to give them Alpha commands, making it harder to make my point. The thing is, I didn't want to see her, but I had a bad feeling about the consequences if I didn't. She could hear us talking; I needed to know how much she actually knew.
