I could only think of my mate, not caring who saw me or the cars on the road. She was fighting to hold on, but I could feel her slipping away, and it was my fault. Why did I leave her? It wasn't like it mattered about a stupid ring. Now she was dying because of me.
It was the furthest I'd been from her since we took off from New Mexico, but she'd been okay when we'd been there. Except we'd been in the dragon's territory. Maybe that kept her safe. Now we didn't have any magical protection, and this happened. When I left, she was fine and healthy. What happened? What changed?
I've never run so fast in my life. What should've taken half an hour only took me fifteen, but when I saw the clinic, it forced me to go faster. No matter what, I need to get to her. She needs me, and I can't let her die.
