The danger didn't come from inside the territory.
My winning over Jake changed everything. The mountain lions didn't know what to do. As I reached the borders, I noticed that the lions guarding the area seemed confused. Not all shifters mind-link. Some can't use it because the structure of their primal selves doesn't work well as a community, making them too chaotic to do it. Mountain lions could live in communities or solitary. That meant that Jake wasn't connected to everyone in the territory.
They all pledged some level of allegiance to live here, but that's not the same as being in a pack.
