I asked too much, but we knew we couldn't avoid this.
There was no getting out of it, and I hated that everyone could hear us. It was Aurora's secret, and she deserved to keep them, but like all secrets, they had come full circle. Even if it had nothing to do with Freddy, we still needed to discuss it. I never asked if Ethan found the place where Liz and Aurora had buried the pup, but this moment of their past was suffocating them.
"Yes," Aurora looked away, and my stomach churned. Part of me hoped I was wrong and was just an awful person for bringing it up, but my instincts had been right again. "Liz told you. Didn't she?"
"Yes," I didn't have a choice. No one else knew the truth about what happened. "She wanted me to understand your life. She wanted to protect you."
"She always does." Her tone was sad, bitter, and remorseful. How often had Liz pulled Aurora out of trouble? "I can't take care of myself."
