"How are we supposed to explain bed rest to everyone?" I ask, staring at Ivan, sitting beside my bed. "You know they'll want an explanation."
The exam had been scarier than I'd dreaded. It wasn't painful with the anesthetic Bailey gave me, but I still felt the pressure as the needle went into my belly. The whole thing only took ten minutes, but when you're holding your breath, that's a long time. Even after Bailey was done and went to tell Ivan, I was afraid to move until Odie did another ultrasound to show me that Devin was still there. After that, Ivan brought me upstairs to the room that had unofficially become mine as often as I ended up here.
"It's just for a little while," Running his fingers across my cheek, Ivan tried to comfort me, but even he looked wary. "We'll make up some excuse."
