I was exhausted.
The last thing I wanted to do was run, but I had no choice. My body ached down to the bone. The price for what I'd done for Ivan was coming to bite me hard. Honestly, it was a miracle I could move, let alone run away from the fight. Yet, that's what I had to do, even if I only wanted to curl up in a ball and sleep.
Fortunately, the storm had scared the mortals, so most had gone to find shelter. That meant there were few cars on the roads and even fewer people on the sidewalks. That was good. It meant there wouldn't be any innocent bystanders around when Jackie came for me. She wouldn't hesitate to kill anyone who got in her way.
Because I was sure she was coming for me.
